Kid is obviously in need of mental help. Don't see how trying him as an adult helps the situation. Maybe a padded room.

It may not deter them, but it stops them from doing it again at less cost than penning them up for life.

he had all these stats about how it costs more for the state to execute someone than it does to keep them in prison for life.

i was always a bit skeptical though.

Oh, I know the argument - all the extra appeals, etc, is a financial burden to the taxpayer. Whatever. At least that taxpayer won't be killed by an executed offender.

Justice is not the ONLY reason the death penalty should exist. Another reason would be, I don't know, ensuring that the person never committed any other crime ever again.... EVER.... guaranteed.

The same can't be said about life in prison.

Unfortunately not.

They cost a LOT of money because of all the appeals, and they still sit in prison for a long time.

Faster exhaustion of appeals would help to change this.

Or, we could take the advice of Chris Rock, and get rid of lethal injection, in favor of a Stabbing Chair, cause stabbing don't cost a damn thing.

Then you don't know very much. The death penalty has been a deterrent for many millennium. Just because our current form takes too long to be effective doesn't mean that the death penalty in general is not a deterrent.
