About online dating?

I'm looking for honest and serious responses from people who have done it. Which sites are better than others and why. Why in the hell is it so expensive? Is it worth it?

And if you're too chicken shoot to admit it was you who used the site, say it was a friend/neighbor/family member/dog.

My sister did it, yes it really was my sister and not me, for 6 months. I would say her experience was more on the eh side of it, but because she was in CS and options were limited. She's also pretty picky. She actually ended up dating a guy she knew before she started the online dating.

The only real problem I would find with it would be safety. However, I'm sure they do background checks and have other such requirements.

i've never used one, but i wouldn't have a problem with anyone who has. it seems just as safe as someone who you would meet at a bar. probably safer considering you get to find out more from one page of info than the small talk you're allowed at a bar.

I had a former coworker who met his current girlfriend through eHarmony. I don't know how it all works, but he swears it was worth the price. He was driving 6 hours every other weekend to see her, and eventually changed jobs to move to her city.

tske, I'd be surprised if they did background checks.

Just don't be stupid and you should be ok. If you meet someone you like, keep it online for a long time, then when you do decide to meet, meet in a public place.

I know someone who does, she has met a few nice guys but nothing has really happened. Any place that does any kind of background check will probably be really expensive.
