I had a friend not too far out of high school spend $7000 on one....she turned it down (she had more sense than he did) and he flipped out and went and threw it in a local lake.....and I know he didn't pay cash for it.

eh, I think its an incredible waste of money. You can get the same symbol for a fraction of the price and still have alot of money left over to save and put towards a house or any other necessity after you get married. Dropping a ton of money on a ring is not exactly a wise thing to do.

It is very clear that most people that have posted 1)have never shopped for an engagement ring or have any idea how much they cost 2)don't make very much money 3)would, for some reason, rather spend the money on something that will immediately lose it's value (cars, seadoos, etc.)

An engagement ring essentially has ZERO value. You're never going to sell it and you sure as sheet cant ride it around a lake.
