The LSS was initiated as a 2 year trial program. Not surprisingly, the competition was totally uncompetitive with tu easily winning the trophy by more than 10 points in both series.

So the question is, do we want to continue this or scrap it?

Frankly, my opinion is why bother? We can NOT win this, not now, not ever. tu has unlimited funding, blue chip athletes top of the line coaches and facilities in every sport. A&M alums aren’t willing to pay for championship level athletics, that’s just a fact. I say scrap this embarrassment, we cant win it, why showcase that fact?

I think it's great because:
1) It's a good method of driving us to succeed, by battling one of the top athletic programs in the country
2) It brings a lot of exposure to the low profile sports

Absolutely keep it because of precisely what Aggie83 said, it basically "forces us" to compete. I do believe it will continue to make us better. And it also focues the attention on the States 2 Flagship Universities. Keep it. Gig'em

See what the score looks like next year. I really think Byrne wanted this with the intent of winning it not now, but in 2007 or 2008. At that point we can start trumpeting our success over tu and it will look like cowardice if tu backs out. It should be a significant marketing coup for us.

Several Reason:
-State Farm is paying for it
-Exposure for less watched sports (tennis, particularly)
-Give our atheletes and fans great motivation to succeed at every sport

Keep it. Like was said, we get paid for it and it makes us pay attention to things like track and swimming. BB didn't expect us to win it right away - give it a few more years and hope that things get turned around. Keep in mind that we've still got Pat Henry as our track and field coach with new facilities on the way for him. That's 4 points of the LSS that have been going to UT, but not for long. Give BB's coaching hires a chance to settle in and we'll get a better idea of how competitive we'll be.

We'll never compete in Men's and Women's Swimming (they are too established), and we are experiencing a downturn in Volleyball and Baseball. So, outside of the big F word (come on Fran, get it together), we are either ahead, even, or closing very fast. I don't know if our measly budget (compared to theirs) will ever get it done, but we will be more competitive as time goes by with BB and his coaching hires. You see, BB cares about ALL of the sports, unlike the past administration.

What A&M has is a lot of good coaches and good facilities. UT has great coaches and great facilities. It's hard for BB to fire a good, competitive coach that can't beat UT and not get a lot of criticism for it. So he either fires the coach and gets criticism for it (Johnson) or waits it out until things get ugly (Watkins.)
We need the rare, fantastic coaches and a few of BB's hires show a lot of promise there. The LSS should stay unless we start seeing a lack of improvement across the board.

We lost in soccer, and volleyball this year where we usually win. Also we lost in golf, where we where suppose to win. With Cat leaving, we should take 2 next year in softball. Really if it was not for the girls this year I think we would have half a point.

Those who think the LSS will EVER be competetive are delusional. Hell, Id die of shock if we ever even get more than 6 points in a season.

Geez! Have a little faith. I hope your death isn't too painful.

does tu have a rodeo team. We would absolutly OWN them in that and it would help our standings.

Considering the only sports we aren't very competitive with UT right now (football, track and field, swimming and diving, and baseball) make up 8 points of the LSS, it's not smart to say we will never win. Again, Pat Henry getting us to the point where we can compete for all track points could be an 8 point swing. Childress just needs more time to get settled and get his own recruits in IMO. No comment on Fran. Swimming and diving will always go to UT until their coach retires. If we improve in those sports and don't backslide in the others, the LSS could get competitive quickly.

Never be competitive? Two years from now we will have every track&field and cross country point there is. That's a huge margin right there.

We are getting more competitive across the board but these things take time.

All in all, I say keep it. State Farm is giving us money and let's be honest. Nobody outside of people who regularly check their webpage care about this thing.

Texas is doing to us in every sport what OU did to them in football. This is a good thing because it forces the powers that be to improve. We will become champions in the big three sports very soon. National champions.

I don't agree with the every sport part. As of right now, both of the Aggie golf teams are going to Nationals . . . . and the 2 teams from ut are NOT!
