Chelsea playing dirty again.

I used to actually like Chelsea, as far as a Spurs fan could. But apart from buying the championship with a bottomless wallet, they then made an illegal approach for Ashley Cole which they got fined & I think docked 3 points for (next season) this unsettled the player.
Now they have gone and approaced Spurs about hiring our Director of Football Frank Arnsen. Apparantly they bcc'd him in on the email so even though we were not interested in letting him go, he now wants to move to Chelsea, no doubt due to the millions he will be offered. I think once again this is a beach of FA rules & just goes to show you what a bunch of slimeballs Chelsea have become.
Not good for football.
I hope they get hit hard, maybe being docked a lot of points & not allowed to make purchses for a few years, that might work. I don't think fining them will make a lot of difference.

Chelsea Football Club has made an approach to Sporting Director, Frank Arnesen, in direct breach of FAPL rules. This approach was made both prior to requesting permission and without permission from the Club. Tottenham Hotspur Football Club refused permission for any discussions to take place.

Notwithstanding that he is subject to contract and holds wide-ranging responsibilities and commitments to all parties at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Frank has indicated that he wishes to move to Chelsea Football Club. Accordingly, the Board of Tottenham Hotspur plc has suspended Frank Arnesen with immediate effect.

The Club is currently in discussions with its legal advisors and a further announcement will be made in due course.

Update....

In response to the statement by Chelsea Ltd, parent company of Chelsea Football Club, the club wishes to clarify the following points.

Chelsea Ltd's letter asking permission to approach Frank Arnesen sent to the club on the 21st May was copied to Frank Arnesen. By definition, Frank was therefore approached prior to the club having had any chance to refuse permission.

A further call was made to the club by Chelsea on the 23rd May when again permission to approach Frank was refused and this was confirmed in writing to them at the time. No other discussions were held with Chelsea until Friday 3rd June when, at the Premier League Chairman's meeting, the Chairman and Club Secretary met with the Chief Executive and Chairman of Chelsea. At that meeting our Chairman made clear his disappointment both at the approach and nature of the approach and made clear his intentions to seek substantial damages.

The rule which has been breached is rule U10 which cites 'no club shall directly or indirectly induce or intend to induce any employee of another club to terminate a contract of employment with that other club (whether or not by breach of that contract) or directly or indirectly approach any such employee with a view to offering employment without the consent of that other club'.

Thank you, Roman Abramovich, for bringing this into the Premiership.

The three point deduction for next year was suspended unless a second offense occurs. Apparently, Spurs haven't officially filed a grievance with the FA but I imagine its just a matter of time before they do. If this turns out to be as bad as it sounds, I think you could see Chelsea docked more than the three suspended points and in addition, a hefty fine surpassing the 300,000 paid in Colegate. Crazy stuff...

I know some stuff like this has always taken place. Everybody probably does it, so what must Chelsea have actually done so that now two clubs are actually complaining to the FA about it?

I dunno, win the league?

If Chelsea broke the rules, then they'll get hit pretty hard, I'm afraid. On the other hand, I think the rule on this one stinks. I would be rather pissed if I made a name for myself in my field, and another company wanted to give me a raise or promotion to work for them, but they were forbidden to talk to me unless my company said OK. I admit I'm a little biased on this one, but if Chelsea were going to throw a bunch of money at me to work for them, I'd feel dumb if I didn't look into it further to see what they wanted.

BBR...I think the rule is that if you are under contract you are not to be approached directly. That is just the way I understand the rule to be written.
The point is, Chelsea know that they have bottomless pockets & can pretty much go after anyone they want due to their wealth.
We will see, but it seems they knew exactly what they were doing.
Also, it unsettles staff, which is exactly what happened with Ashley Cole. I don't think it is good for football & they are making a bad name for themselves right now.

Ollie, do you think it's a matter of foreigners in charge who don't know the rules, or just more a matter of flouting the rules?

What's really stupid is that if Chelsea are charged and a punishment is handed down, the suspended three point deduction from the Cole case will not be activated because the deduction only kicks in for violations next year, not later this year. So Chelsea, lie, cheat and scheme all you want this year because you won't lose any precious points...just money but we all know you have plenty of that.

Oh and while the question wasn't directed to me, I feel compelled to answer:

There is no way its a matter of foreigners not knowing the rules and even if that is the case, that is not justification. I sincerely doubt you become one of the richest men in Russia if not the world by not knowing the rules of your particular business be it oil or soccer. Besides I'm fairly certain Peter Kenyon had to have some sort of knowledge of all these things.

Yeah I think they knew the rules, I mean, it would be very stupid not to know these things, especially as they just got slammed over Ashley Cole in a very similar incident.
I think they really wanted him to come to Chelsea & took a gamble which in the end will pay off as he will join them.

Although I think it is ****ty of him to go, he is going to have his salary increased to 2 mil a year, thats $4 mil. Not to be sniffed at.

Still think it is playing dirty though. Also, even if you support Chelsea, would you really like them to run away with the championship every year just because they can buy up the best manager, support staff, players, etc. I mean, don't you think it would somewhat take the excitement out of the game if you can just piss all over other teams all the time?

I guess it would be nice for Tottenham to have that financial clout, but I still would not like to just buy up everyone we could.

The same thing happens in all sports. Look at our baseball coach search.

I wasn't sure if that was courtesy or an actual rule, as far as A&M's coaching search goes.
