Solid win today vs. a much improved OSU team. We really needed this win to get a little confidence after losing to Pepperdine and USC and then only beating OU 4-3.

haven't tech and OSU historically been bad in tennis? are both teams just having good years or have they been decent/good for a while? i thought it was A&M, Baylor, and UT ... and then everybody else.

OSU has been good in tennis for a number of years. Coach Segal at Tech has had them improving and this should be a good match on Saturday. Make no mistake about it, the win versus OSU is a big win for the Aggies, especially since it was on the road.

Seriously who cares, Baylor willl win the title, were just playing for second in conference..Were being punked by Baylor every year in tennis.

tech is ranked so high because they are 19-1, even though most of those are against crappy teams. however, their new #1 is awesome...former polish junior champion and top 20 in the world in 18s. we are still better than them though.

osu has definitely been solid for the last few years. and didn't we lose to them last year?

in regard to us having no chance against baylor...i wouldn't go that far. as i mentioned in another thread, they've had four matches go 4-3. one of those was uva, who we lost to, 4-3. another of them was osu, who we just beat 5-2. not saying we will beat them, just saying that i doubt they blow us out.

Aggie 11, why so pesimistic. Sure Balor is very good. Nat Champ. Loaded. I think sports is about playing the game and seeing what happens. Remember football season and Baylor. I believe on any given day, so we just hope our day is against Baylor. No one is unbeatable in any sport, much less tennis on the college level.

I think it is a solid start to the conference. Sure the title goes through Waco. I think right now the focus should be getting some wins and setting things up for seeding for the NCAA tourney. Big win against OSU on the road and winning 5-2 is even more impressive. Hope this is a spring board for the rest of the year. I think we all want to be sitting in the stands cheering for the Aggies at the NCAA's so lets do our part to make that happen.

The win vs. OSU at their place was huge, maybe the tough schedule is paying off. I think we will see this in our match vs. tt. 2nd to bu is no embarassment. I just want to see us be able to host a match at the NCAAs in CS. Next year bu will need to watch out.

How would a 3 way tie for 2nd shake out?
All teams would be 1-1 head to head.

not exactly sure...that's why i was watching the live scoring of the ou/osu match. ou won the dubs point and was leading in 3 of the singles matches, but choked at the end. thanks for nothing, sooners.

That match doesn't matter. We beat OSU, we need techard to lose, that way it's a tie between TAMU and osu; and we win the tie breaker.

Not like it matters much, Baylor is going to win it all again.
isotaptx

actually that match WOULD have mattered if ou won. that would have given osu 3 losses and taken them out of the 3 way tie. osu beating ou 4-3 is a lot closer than tech's last 2 matches will be, assuming the teams play the same lineups and no one gets hurt.

i could care less who is the 4 seed, as long as we are 2 or 3. of course, i would prefer 2, but as long as we aren't 4 we've got our best shot at getting to the finals.

2 and 3 play each other in the second round. If OSU had lost though that would put us in a tie only with Tech, and since they beat us in the regular season I assume they would get the tie-breaker and 2 spot. We have a better chance of getting the 2 spot if there is a three way tie, unfortunately we also have a shot at being a 4 seed (i dont know how the tiebreaker works).

i'm not sure how this will work, because (as someone said earlier) we would all be 5-2 and all be split 1-1 between the 3 teams.

---i have no idea if this means anything to the big 12 officials---

A&M beat osu 5-2 and lost to tech 3-4
osu beat tech 6-1 (or 4-1)* and lost to A&M 2-5
tech beat A&M 4-3 and lost to osu 1-6 (or 1-4)*

A&M's match count would be 8-6
osu's match count would be 8-6 (or 6-6)*
tech's match countuld be 5-9 (or 5-7)*

since A&M has scoreboard on osu, that could make the seeding (2)A&M (3)osu (4)tech

---i have no idea if this means anything to the big 12 officials---

*osu reports their score 6-1, while tech reports the score 4-1. osu's website says "The Cowboys received two more default victories at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions. Burmistrau picked up the win at No. 5 after winning the first set, 6-0, while Texas Tech declined to play the No. 6 match after the team outcome had been decided." tech's website, however, has the 5 and 6 matches listed as DNF. the official big 12 website has it listed as 6-1 on osu's schedule, and 1-4 on tech's.

of course, none of this means anything if we don't take care of t.u. tomorrow or if tech chokes in the next 2 matches.

I believe that if we beat Texas tomorrow we will be the number two seed at the conference tournament.

as of 4/24/05

baylor(1) 25-0, 7-0
TEXAS A&M(14) 14-7, 5-2
osu(15) 18-5, 5-2
tech(10) 23-2, 5-2
ou (47) 18-5, 2-5
t.u.(32) 11-8, 2-5
colorado(61) 9-14, 2-5
nebraska(74) 9-14, 0-7

3 way tie for second with 5-2 records, 3 way tie for fifth with 2-5 records.

this isn't official yet, but my guess is that the first round matches go like this...

baylor/nebraska
TEXAS A&M/colorado
osu/t.u.
tech/ou (edited to correct)

osu/t.u. in austin should be a good one.

the official conference tournament bracket is out...

http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/big12/sports/c-tennis/auto_pdf/05_MBRACKET.pdf

(1)baylor/(8)nebraska
6pm friday

(4)tech/(5)t.u.
3pm friday

(3)osu/(6)ou
12pm friday

(2)TEXAS A&M/(7)colorado
9am friday

t.u. got the 5 seed over ou and cu when it came down to match counts, just as we got the 2 seed over osu and tech. looks like both of the middle matches will be pretty exciting, as t.u. should put up more than a 2-5 fight against tech on their home court, and ou/osu went down to the last match during the season.

p.s. we got screwed having the 9am match.
