The University of Texas just defeated Kansas University 1-0 in double overtime! This gives Kansas their 2nd loss of the season, knocking them back even with us. Our win over Iowa State today gives us 2 total losses, clinching a share of the Big12 Championship!

Thank you, Longhorns!

That's sweet! I wish the Aggies would've done it on their own -- they have the talent -- but I'll take it anyway.

Nebraska lost to Colorado today, also. Kansas has one game left against Iowa State. I think it highly unlikely that ISU pull that upset, but it's not impossible. The worst that the team can do at this point is a co-championship with Kansas, and the best is an outright championship. Either way, the team has had a good year, and look for them to do well in the ncaa's.

You would never know the soccer team won the Big 12 Championship if you read today's Batt. They must not have known the team played. There was one little line in the bottom of the story about the Kansas loss. They seemed too fixed on the Kansas game.

I can't believe a student paper would print the photo of the A&M player crying after the KU game.

Did you see Coach G chase after the photographer after the game for being in KJ's face in the time of dissappointment?

Seems like a pretty classless thing for the Batt to do, especially since the team won the Big 12 title and in hindsight the KU game had no effect.

Typical Battalion.

Actually the KU game had a huge effect. Had the Aggies taken care of business Friday night, they would have set themselves up for winning the Big 12 outright rather than as co-champ with KU, assuming KU beats Iowa State this weekend. But I agree that there were other photo opportunities available to reflect the disappointment of the team following the loss rather than using the photo of a crying player.

No offense Ag10 but that is part of a photographers job, to capture the emotion. These girls get "paid" to play soccer and are public figures in the sense that on the field they represent the university. I could understant a grievance if the photo was not set in the playing field but under the circumstances, anything that happens in the sports complex is fair game for the journalists.

So "DF" you are then justifing that the space used by the three day old photo was reason enough to essentially ignore the fact that the team won the Big 12 Championship on Sunday. Again, other than the final words of the story, no mention of the Championship. But they managed to get the photo in twice. Once by the KU story and once on the front page.

You want journalism? Try using some basic journalism techniques to cover the Championship part of the story.

The photo and the story are just examples of how the Batt just ignored the Championship winning in attempt to run the three-day old photo instead of covering the more recent and updated part of the soccer team's season.

The Battalion is horrible, you would think A&M could do much better.

I emailed them a suggestion last weekend on a short article they should write. I was informed that all of the week's content was filled, but thanks anyway. Last week, after that, I saw an article on that topic on two different days.

I don't work at The Batt, and never have, but I'll defend them a little because:

1. They probably don't have the budget to go to away games. They wrote more on the home game they went to and could write about.

2. The picture was a good picture. But it shouldn't have run twice.

3. They don't have weekend editions, so Friday's match will have to get in Monday's paper.

I don't know when they go to press on Sundays, but they might have found out too late about A&M sharing the Big 12 title. But they should've checked to see what it was going to take for A&M to win it and checked to see what happened in the UT-KU match. They shoud've tried to get more on the win, also.

I'll take a co-championship at this point. Congrats to the girls!

Non-soccer, Batt related topic.

They ran a mail call letter today, in which the author stated that the Band was supporting Bush and advertising his name by doing a W formation during halftime. The Band has done this formation since the 60's.
