Meet Preview
We'll have this one thread, but we'll have our team splitting up as they head to two different meets. The majority of the team, sprinters, mid distance, and field events will all head to New Mexico to compete at their infamous fast track while a handful of our distance runners will head to Boston again for a more competitive distance meet.
New Mexico will provide a great test for us. We haven't seen much competition this season aside from the Tech meet in early January. Today and tomorrow we will get to race against USC and their huge group of elite sprinters. They are loaded with sprinting talent and in this meet there will be separate "invitational sections" for the 60, 200, and 400. So it will be all elite runners.
We'll get to see Auhmad Robinson in the 200. Lawson Jacobs dropped a nationally top ten time in the event last weekend. Jacobs, Farquharson, and Hemphill will contest the 400 and I really wanna see the latter two drop under 46. The women's 60 will feature Olympic Chanpion Rhasidat Adeleke in the 60 in the same heat as our Camryn Dickson and Anya Jackson. The 200 and 400 are on Friday with the 60 taking place on Saturday. On Saturday is also the 60 hurdles. We'll see Jaiya Covington race a stacked lineup and Ja'Qualon Scott go head to head with Connor Schulman.
However, the event I'm most excited to see is the men and women's pole vault. On the men's side we'll see an epic head to head between our very own Aleksandr Solovev, the reigning NCAA Outdoor Champion, versus Washington's James Rhoads who's gone 19'1, 19'0, and 18'8 this season. An epic battle where we can see Solovev pushed. Oleg Ananev, Leo Bowen and Jack Mann III will also compete in the elite division. Saturday on the women's side we'll see the Moll twins Amanda and Hannah of Washington who have both gone over 16 feet, a Louisville duo who has gone over 14'8 as well as Lily Carlson who went 14'8 for us last week. This will be the event to follow!
Over in Boston, Friday on the men's side well only have Ondrej Gajdos in the mile, while Youssef Asslouj, Victor Kibiego, Jack Johnston, and Michael Moiben will race in the 3000. Saturday on the women's side well only see a couple Ags only in the 3000. Debora Cherono made the elite heat that features Olympian Courtney Wayment and many of the NCAA's best. Cherono is primed to get a huge PB! Joyce Kemboi and Megan Roberts will race the 3000 as well! I'm surprised we don't have any other girls racing the mile or 5000. Still sad Luca Santorum is yet to compete this indoor season.
What's more romantic than track and field. Spend your valentines scrolling through track results with me and follow your Ags! I've been on dates with beautiful women, this Valentine's I rather watch us set some PR's!
