Pole Vault Preview

This could be another 10 points for the Aggies if we take care of business! In the first scoring event of the weekend, the men's pole vault will feature Aleksandr Solovev, also the nation's leader! He's cleared 19'0 while there are a few athletes behind him with bests at 18'10, and 18'9. We're all aware Solovev didn't clear his opening height at conference. But I'm a meet with that many vaulters with a delay, it took him hours to get his first jump in. That won't be the case tomorrow! Hopefully Solovev is going in with the right mindset and can hit a huge height for us. Securing 10 points for us here will be huge and the best way to start the championships! If you're a track fan, I'd get used to hearing about the Moll twins of Washington! Amanda and Hana Moll are head and shoulders above the field with Amanda owning the NCAA record with a 16'1 vault! Her sister is right behind at 15'9! They are world class and the future of US vaulting!

Long Jump Preview

Another very important event in the team standings picture! USC expects to score here and expects to score huge! They have the number one jumper in the nation JC Stevenson, who's brother and sister jumped for Texas A&M a few years back! They also have the 4th best long jumper in Johnny Brackins! We also have two jumpers competing in Khybah Dawson and Mason Mangum, ranked 8th and 16th. The long jump is on Friday. It will be amazing if we can score here. A PR from either probably means some points so let's hope and pray that comes true! A perfect scenario is one of our guys has a perfect day and can cut into USC's points! Let's try to get both guys into the finals! On the women's side it's gonna be a very strong competition! It took a 21'3 just to get into the meet! Florida's Anthaya Charlton has the best jump with a 22'11! Illinois has 4 jumpers in this event!

Triple Jump Preview

Points for us here would be amazing, but it may take a PR for Gavin Champ! He's had an incredible indoor season, obliterating his lifetime PB's and he's very consistent as well having jumped over 52 4 times this indoor season! He comes in ranked 10th, but he's a great competitor and if he PR's he can score! The SEC is ranked 1-4 in this event, including an Arkansas athlete! Let's hope Gavin can make the finals and get on the scoring table! Just like in long jump, not everyone will be able to jump their absolute best in a super competitive tense meet like a national championship. It seems like in these jumping events, they can be erratic. Fouls always disturb someone's confidence and rhythm. Anything can happen in the jumps! On the women's side, we have the nation's best in Winny Bii! It should be a two person race between her and Emilia Sjorstand of Sanchez Jose State! Bii is the more consistent jumper but we'll see who Pr's this weekend!! I got my money on Winny Bii scoring 10 for the Ags!

Shot Put / Weight Throw Preview

No athletes for us in the throwing events unfortunately, but it'll still be great to follow. Tarik Robinson O'Hagan is the clear favorite to win the shot put and he's also in contention to win the weight throw! This guy performs at championships! Although Wyoming's Daniel Reynolds may have something to say in the weight throw as will Kenneth Ikeji of Harvard! On the women's side expect an all time epic battle in the shot put! Houston's KeAyla Dove leads the nation, but Mya Lesner (yes daughter of Brock Lesnar) is the reigning indoor champ, and there's a host of world clad throwers behind her. Also someone I personally know and who I saw compete all throughout high school is competing in this event for Texas State! It'll be a fun competition!

High Jump Preview

Again no Aggies in this event, but man does it feel weird not having Lamara Distin anymore! She was a constant presence in this event and for us the last 4/5 years! But man oh man will this be a loaded event on the women's side. Every single girl has jumped over 6 feet! Rachel Glenn of Arkansas has gone 6'6 this year while Elena Kulichenko has gone 6'5! Keep an eye on this event! On the men's side Arkansas is looking to score 10 here behind their freshman Scottie Vines. He's competed sparingly this season going 7'3, then 7'6 but struggled mightily at conference and couldn't go above 7'0. If he can't score for Arkansas, that will be a huge blow to their team chances! So let's keep an eye on that! USC has two jumpers in this event and Tech 1, however they aren't projected to score. But we all know the high jump all comes down to misses, so anything could happen!

Pentathlon Preview

Just like Blake Harris, our very own Sofia Iakushina had herself a day at conference last week moving into the 3rd best mark in the nation! She had some crazy PR's in nearly every event and just competed on fire! She was injured last season back home in Russia and has eased her way back this year before exploding at conference! Her confidence is at an all time high so it'll be awesome to see her carry that momentum! This will be our ladies opportunity for scoring day 1 so it'll be great to see to start off on the right foot! Her main competition will be Pippi Lotta Enok of OU who bested her at conference and Notre Dame's Jadin O'Brien, the veteran of Notre Dame who's the reigning indoor champion!

Heptathlon Preview

If you were with us for the SEC Championship, we all witnessed the amazing and clutch performance from Blake Harris to win the meet and earn a top 16 mark! It may be hard to replicate all those PB's he got last time out, but this event takes a different kind of competitor, and Blake Harris is a DAWG! In a meet like this where many athletes had their best meet only 2 weeks ago, finishing the meet is always tough! 7 events with so much on the line in 2 days is a difficult task. Last year only 12 of the athletes finished and got a mark in all 7 events. So getting a mark in the field events and finishing the meet alone puts you in a spot to fight for points! Blake Harris comes in with the 11th best mark, so any points here would be absolutely beneficial! He had a historic meet 2 weeks ago, can he replicate it! Mississippi State's Peyton Bair is the favorite. Arkansas' Jack Turner can be a factor for big points for them, he was one of the athletes who didn't finish the meet last year.

I've been crunching numbers all week, and I'm still not sure!! I have USC with a slight lead over us!! I'm just scared they'll score 16 or even 18 in the long jump! Anything below that and I think we can catch them! Arkansas has the most numbers which is always a scary position to be in, a couple guys have a huge PR and score and they're the favorites!! It's gonna be so so close

Let's hope tomorrow we get off to a hot start! Blake Harris opens up the meet in the heptathlon! Scoring wise we'll have Aleksandr Solovev in the pole vault, Khybah Dawson and Mason Mangum in the long jump, and the men's DMR! Running in the prelims for us will be Auhmad Robinson and Antonie Nortje in the 400, and Jaqualon Scott in the 60 Hurdles!

The men's long jump will be important, that's where USC hopes to score huge, they can potentially go 1-2 in the event. Let's hope for less and let's hope we can score! Then it's all about getting our 3 runners into the prelim, Arkansas and USC less runners. Then we'll also have the men's 5k where Arkansas is projected to score a lot! Let's hope for the opposite!!!

Coming up first today will be the men's heptathlon 60 meter dash in 45 minutes! Blake Harris has a PR of 6.86 and a season's best of 6.92! His best has him with the 3rd fastest time of the 16 men in the heptathlon! Let's hope for a great start! Harris is lane 1 heat 2

The men's heptathlon is 7 events across 2 days. 4 events today, 3 tomorrow. The events are in the following order: 60 Meters, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump on day 1, followed by the 60 hurdles, Pole Vault, and concludes with a 1000 meter run!

Harris's best events are the 60 hurdles and 60! The shot put and high jump are his weakest so we need PB's there! He can really set the tone with this first 60 being around 6.90, hopefully faster!
