I'd heard the possibilty of a buyout and subsequent relocation of the team, but that was ages ago. If this happens, I'd be ecstatic.

Not so fast, my friend. San Jose may relocate to Texas, but Donovan will be (re-)relocated to Germany. He is on loan to MLS from Leverkusen, to whom he'll return at the end of this MLS season.

What are you Lee Corso? I know Leverkusen owns his rights but Donovan is still searching for a way to continue playing in MLS. I've heard that he may get loaned out again or MLS may make a bid to try and own his rights. Donovan has made it abundantly clear that he doesn't want to play in Europe just yet and I can't imagine that a club would force a player back who they know doesn't want to play for them.

Who knows where he'll end up -- I have read that he wants to stay with MLS, but Levekusen officially reclaimed him a week or two ago. (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=302314&cc=5901)

Regarding the initial topic, it's hard to believe that a team that has won 2 of the last 3 MLS championships could be relocated.

Goo!!! My information is more dated than yours. I've been missing a lot more news info recently than is allowable.

I agree it is odd for a team to move that has been successful but that's the way the MLS is looking at things nowadays. If you aren't willing to build a soccer specific stadium and a new owner wants to move you...so be it.
