Supposedly the one match was conspired to be thrown. It was an ugly, ugly situation.

CSU serving is far from their strength. Let me work on a breakdown.

Aggies should win. The level TAMU plays on is just higher.

Seems they played a good amount of power 4 schools in non conference they lost 31 against Oregon, Florida, Notre Dame, and Colorado, then they beat Colorado 3-1 in a rematch! But Colorado sucks! So they haven't played a tough opponent since mid September

CSU always schedules some top flight opponents early in their season knowing they will have a much easier conference schedule. CSU scrimmaged Creighton and was not run out of the gym but it was still one sided.

Lost to Florida, Mich State, Northern Colorado (always tough for who they are), and Oregon. All 3-1. CSU usually takes at least one of those early season matches. Not this year which honestly surprised me. Very Senior and Grad heavy team this year.

CSU split with CU...each winning on the opponents floor. CSU ended up splitting with all the top teams in the Mountain West. The conference schedules are uneven. Can't play each twice so they go for more bids. That means the historically good teams face each other more to keep up SOS. So they played all the best twice and the bottom dwellers only once. Big run late season before dropping the 3rd and 4th from last games on the road. Won the last two and then won both MW conference tournament matches 3-1. It was a bit stressful dropping the one set but never really that close. I have a number of posts on the politics board about the guy SJSt player if you want to read that crap.

I'll work on style of play and players in a minute.

Historically CSU has been a consistent top 25 team, easily being one of the best mid majors. It's a trap match for sure, CSU is confident and rowdy. There are easily a step above a Texas State, and we all know Texas State has had some good teams in the last decade.

I also feel like we have done an excellent job at not only peaking at the right time, but as of late conserving Logan Lednicky's arm! Across the last 4 matches, she's only averaged 30.6 swings per match. Prior to that she was over 35 swings nearly half our matches. So she should be in great shape going into this weekend! And our middles have always been great, but it seems like Ifenna Cos-Okpalla is on a whole different level the past few games and offensively her and Morgan Perkins are swinging well!!! We are on a 4 game winning streak and haven't lost in 3 weeks!

Overall:

CSU struggles with serve reception. The middles can be very impactful if the passes are on the spot. CSU prefers to pass to a spot that is tight on the net. I feel like the passing is questionable at time - especially against top flight talent. When out of system, CSU is VERY conservative. Even in wins CSU typically has less aces and more service errors than their opponent.

CSU's head coach is a former libero from Iowa where she was second all time in digs and 12th in service aces. She was an assistant here under Tom Hilbert (26 years as HC). I like her, and she is great in booster meetings I have attended. She was pretty open about the decision to play the SJST team and the fact they were not all in favor of it. She provides handouts and discusses the strategy and styles of CSU and opponents which was educational. She also discussed NIL and the portal and how the good players have to get paid if you want them.

CSU has a former Arizona Wildcat at Setter who was all conference and the MW tournament MVP. Emory Herman is a Senior from Georgetown, Texas and joined CSU last year. She was an immediate impact for CSU. She is 6 foot (righty) and does like to dump on two when she can. She is pretty successful at it and can dump to anywhere on the court with a high amount of accuracy. She is the leader and one of the better servers. She is also pretty good at defense and is a solid passer.

The MW player of the year was another transfer - this one from USC (didn't play and moved on early in her career). Malaya Jones is the starting Opposite from Cali and is Six foot and can jump. She is the only CSU player to actually hit hard and CSU usually goes as she does. She is a force in the front and very successful from the back as well. Six rotation player. She doesn't do much passing but she has come through on defense regularly later in the season. Her serves are ok but not what I'd typically think of given her power. She can get rattled and when CSU dropped the two games the second to last week it was in large part due to her hitting percentage dropping.

CSU has two middles. Naeemah Weathers is from Colorado Springs and came into CSU as a very rough youngster. She is built like a stick and stands 6-1. I have been wanting her to live in the gym and cafeteria since she got to Fort Collins. She has a very high hitting percentage when CSU actually uses their middles. She is mainly used on quick sets in the middle. She is now a Grad student. All MW first team.

The other middle is Karina Leber. She is listed at 6-3 and is another graduate student. She has been a mainstay for CSU for several years. She loves to hit the slide but that can be predictable and is susceptible to being blocked. All MW first team.

CSU utilizes one defensive specialist. Aine Doty (pronounced enya). She will at times struggle with passing. I don't really have much to say about her as she is not much of a difference maker.

CSU will sub in freshman Jordyn Tynsky out of Denton Guyer for serving duties. Decent but nothing special usually. As soon as she is done serving she is back out of the rotation.

The starting outside hitter is graduate student Kennedy Stanford. She doesn't really hit hard. She prefers offspeed and tipping. If the set is not perfect many times she will just stand flat footed and go over with two hands....which never gets a point. She has often been a target for opponent's serve but that has fallen off as more viable targets presented themselves.

Maria Brun is the other outside hitter (Aine replaces in the back row) that is a freshman from Barcelona Spain. She has a good solid flat serve. In the MW championship game she started serving at 18-16 and served out the match. She has sometimes been shutdown on the attack. She is more successful when she mixes in hard attacks and some tips and rolls since she lacks the power to overwhelm the block. She had a good tournament after a midseason slump. She is often the target of opponents serves.

CSU usually sticks with one libero. Kate Yoshimoto is an undersized 5-2 Redshirt junior from Honolulu. She started the season with a concussion. Several games in when she started playing again she was all over defensively making great digs. She was also a solid server. At some point towards the end of the season she got the "yips" and couldn't serve to save her life. CSU tried the other libero to serve and all kinds of other options. She showed some life at the MW tournament and managed to regain some of her former form.

Hopefully we have a great day serving and take advantage of their weakness there! If they are not that strong serving and we stay in system, hopefully we can get early leads and stay on top! Thank you so much for the detailed insight, I'm sure everyone here appreciates it! Glad two schools you're a fan of get to go against each other!
