It was pretty much that way in football but just not transparent like it is now.
The only need out of the portal is likely a middle to back up Perkins and Cos in case of injury and or sub par performancebwhitmarsh said:
When do we think we would be signing 1-2 transfers? I know Coach likes to develop more than bringing in transfers, but feels like we really need an outside hitter and a DS with experience…but also multiple years of eligibility so we dont lose the whole team next year.

I'll just have to disagree with you on that one. Bring in a OH and a DS that can contribute immediately…let the freshman develop. Obviously let the freshman play if they are ready, but always have to focus on upgrades.

You have to bring in talent that will push the starters in all positions if you can. However, you have to do it in healthy ways that will promote competition yet keep team dynamics positive. If the freshmen can push, that's a bonus but you can't bank on it just in case.
I think one reason Ava Underwood played her best year so far was the competition for libero at the start of the season. Both liberos had on and off games at first but Underwood rose up to the occasion and we all saw how improved the defense got.
I've seen it in the club scene as well (from my limited view). Healthy competition helps maximize the talent growth. Some players don't like that kind of push though which brings down the whole team overall. But several times I see a starter stagnating. Insert another player that seems to play with spunk but has a lower ceiling and all of a sudden, the starter wakes up and gets better.
We need someone to push the OH to figure out how to get a kill when you keep getting blocked. We need a MB to help increase overall blocking. Need an athletic setter that pushes Waak to improve in blocking and digging. Even Lednicky could use some push to improve on digs or serve receive.

Not profitable but at least NU's volleyball program broke even. In 2023, revenue was $4.42M and expenses were $4.41M.

Does $4.4M seem like not a lot for a top D1 volleyball program? Salaries, travel, bonuses, maintenance, ...
Google says Cook took home nearly $1.9M of salary+bonuses.

I bet the home court helps them! There were hundreds of fans outside welcoming them into the stadium earlier!Texker said:
