Athing Mu falls down at the 200 mark
I hate to say this, but I could see this coming a mile away. It's almost as if she positioned herself in the middle of the pack and expected that to happen. I don't believe she was a serious competitor this year for Olympic gold. Hard to see.

Truthfully, you are correct. Not a fan of his tactics. But, also, if she's serious about track and field, she might have to turn away a few modeling gigs.
Love her to death. Sad for her, but she just was not race ready.

My wife and I definitely had the same thought. This type of devastating set back is gonna do one of 2 things.
Either it reignites the fire and she really gets back at it or it may extinguish it and she starts to really switch over to her love of fashion

I get it, she's a phenom, but you cant just show up at the end when it matters and expect to be your dominant self. A few other races and she would've learned to not slow down like that or to take the lead out with her speed. 5 track meets in 2 years is just disrespectful to the sport and to the fans. She hasn't ran a 400 since May of 2022… she could have had the track world in the palm of her hands, I hate to see how this is happening to her. A lot of it or most of it to blame is on Bobby Kersee thinking he knows how to coach an 800 runner, by going against everything about how Pat Henry and Milton Mallard trained her and got her ready to win Olympic gold

There are plenty of high-level meets after the Olympics. Will be telling if Mu doesn't run in some of those.
She needs to really sit down and reflect and what went right in 2021 and what didn't in 2024. It's pretty ****ing obvious what worked and what didnt
She won't… after she got upset at worlds last year she said right after the race "I'm happy track is over" her heart isn't in this… she was scheduled to run 4 different times prior to trials and she pulled out of all of them and she never gave an explanation
A stark contrast is Anna Hall who was also crying after she finished, but she was crying because she won the Olympic Trials after getting surgery on her PCL in January… yet 4 months later she competed and competed in 10 more events leading up the trials… Anna Hall poured her heart into this season knowing the Olympics were at stake
Athing is amazingly talented, and we are beside ourselves with the outcome today. As if his mom wasn't stressing enough about Sam's race on Thursday...hopefully he finds that "dawg" in himself & stays out of trouble....
The trials are trials for a reason! Anything can happen and it's 9 800 runners in each heat fighting for the same dream! I believe in Sam and expect him to run extremely well through the heats! He has the talent to run with every one in the field!
Yall think Deadmon gets to run the 4x400 over Norwood? Bryce has proven to be a very reliable relay guy. But also have to think Rai Benjamin might be in that team as well

Run 48.x and dare USATF to not select her for the relay team.
The rules state they have discretionary picks for exceptional situations for the relay pool.
If they still have the mixed relay, I think you select him.

I believe you are correct based on the few races she has run this year. I also think that NBC might pressure the selection committee to have her on the relay pool.

I really hate that there is a two day break in the trials. I understand wanting to have content over two weekends but the two off days are.... boring.

Burned out at 22. Not uncommon. If she wants to come back, she can do it. If she doesn't, no biggie. She got paid by Nike and can get on with her life. It was gonna happen by age 26 anyway.taylorswift13_ said:

She got paid, but she's only 22. Her Nike contract was estimated to be at 750k/year with bonuses for medals and races.
Its not like she made generational wealth and she lives in one of the most expensive places on the planet. Modeling ain't gonna pay the bills for that long

Maybe not, but she sure doesn't owe me anything. She may not be crazy enough to be a GOAT. I certainly love watching her, and my own daughter is a college 800 runner, but it sucks, and if you don't have it in your heart, get off the crazy train.

I'm not as in tuned as you guys, but why isn't Kerley running the 200? Is he "just" a 100 guy now?
The 200 field is even tougher than the 100.
