If you had told me that our #5 and #6 players won all-tournament team and did not take a singles loss to Georgia, I would have practically guaranteed an SEC championship.

Happy for them. Sets up well for the NCAAs. Our top 4 will bounce back.

Hoping Carson shares good news soon.

Any word on injuries?

Carson was evaluated by the medical staff and all reports are positive that there was no significant injury.

it is my suspicion that we won't hear about anything for at least a week given the time between SECs and NCAAs

But is that meaning she will be healthy to play??

I was watching her match when it happened. To me it looked like a pretty significant hip flexor cramp (maybe strain/sprain). She was trying to stretch it out and it just got worse and worse. Almost impossible to recover from during a match if that was the case. They played a lot of matches in a short time.

because this is a forum i allow myself to near freely speak(knowing it's just fun and no real impact). with that said i agree in a sense that it may not be a serious/ season ending injury because she walked back out and finished the match. even though she was just a body out there but the end, she knows her hips better than anyone (unfortunately) and if she thought that she would have been hurting herself more I don't believe she would have walked back out there. She did retire against SC last year when her hip was too much, which leads me to lean that she knows her body well enough

Ok - someone help me understand. Moving forward, can Mark play with the lineup for NCAAs? Will there be an appeal process for each match?
Chruchie

to my understanding. Coaches will submit a lineup, every lineup is reviewed by the NCAA if it's approved then that's it, you're good to go and no appeals can be made because the NCAA approves all line ups pre match.

A coach can remove a player from the lineup, but in that case everyone that is underneath them slides up, not a direct player for player sub. I won't speak on substituting a player for doubles because i just don't know what that looks like.

I think a significant change with this year vs years in the past is coaches can submit a new line up every weekend. So 1&2 rounds are weekend 1, a new lineup can be submitted for Sweet 16(which is weekend 2), and a different lineup can be submitted for weekend 3 (elite 8 and beyond). if a team does not change their lineup it will use the default that they submitted at the beginning of the tournament. I would assume if a change is submitted, it will have to get approved by the NCAA before the match starts.

unlike the SEC tournament, the NCAA doesn't have a bias and ulterior motive in challenging a lineup. they will look at facts and take a more objective look at everything. the SEC coaches thought they would have a better shot at winning if they put Carson at 1, so that's what they voted on, the NCAA doesn't have that view.

Ok good info. That leads to my next question, can we play an advantage and have Carson at 2 or 3 or do you think they will make Mark line up the UTRs like he did for SECs? With the top 3 so close to each other, I'm not sure what advantage that would beโ€ฆjust curious as to what he can effectively do with the lineup.

New rankings are in. Aggies drop to 13. Georgia drops to 7. Florida, 15, Tennessee 16, Auburn 17, and South Carolina 19.

No way NCAA will make him lineup by UTR since Fiona played 2 almost all of last year

i think he wanted to play her at 3 because he thought he could. i think he will play it slightly more reasonable at submit her at 2 with nichole at 3. I wasn't anticipating a large debate about her in SECs but with all the other coaches having all the power i'm not surprised.

singles rankings
1. Mary
26. Nichole
46. Mia
88. Carson

Doubles rankings
7. M&M ( i guess loosing to an in ranked team will do that, but it was a newly formed team, still talented)

This makes sense. Fortunately, all 3 of those girls can play 1, 2, or 3. I really think you give the nod to Mary at 1, though. She's definitely earned that right. 2 and 3 are a toss up for me.

Doubles. Different story for me tbh. I almost would move Lulu and Jeannette back to 2 and Carson/Nicole/Sydney back to 3.

So unless Ohio State loses before the finals in the Big 10 tournament and we jump them, I'd guess we're most likely going to match up with UNC in the 3rd round? That's the 4 vs 13 as it stands
Chruchie

looks that way. i dont know how to do that math, but ohio st will still loose points for loosing even to michigan. a 1 point difference is not a lot. we want stanford to win the p12, and u much the B10. An upset of Ohio st would be very nice but i doubt it happens in the weak B10.

i don't know what they will do in doubles (or even what i want). i thought carson and nichole would have better results. maybe you keep the 4 you played with at 2&3 just change partners, but it might be too late in the season to do that well. I have a feeling that doubles will be the main emphasis in practices the next 2 weeks.

They won't necessarily use the current rankings for seeding. The NCAA will seed the teams based on the season and the current rosters. I think we will be seeded top 10. UNC will probably be 2 or 3. At least this is what I remember or think I remember from the past. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a feeling doubles has been the main emphasis the whole year. Sometimes singles players just don't translate well to doubles.

True. Really think the girls need to pound the alleys more on their returns to keep the opposing net players honest. One reason that Mary is such a fantastic doubles player is because of how she mixes up her returns. Flat, top spin, slice, lob, short in the court, down the line. Really keeps them on their toes.

That would be tough. Hopefully we avoid a top 4-5 team on the road.

You think we can get all the way down to 8? It would be nice not to have to play a top 8 team on the road in the sweet 16.

I have a feeling they will be lazy and just go with the ITA rankings.

Both titles were well deserved. each played at a significantly better level than anyone else in the conference. lulu being named to the second team all-sec is also very note worthy.
