Texas A&M volleyball falls to Georgia in straight sets at Reed Arena
Texas A&M volleyball dropped its Sunday matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs in straight sets at Reed Arena (25-23, 25-22, 25-18).
Following a win over South Carolina and frustrating four-set loss to No. 17 Florida on Friday, the Aggies conclude their three-game homestand 1-2.
Though the match seemed evenly spread, the Aggies failed to gain enough momentum to keep up with the Bulldogs.
“I’m disappointed because I don’t think we came out and played the way that we can,” A&M head coach Jamie Morrison said. “I don’t know if the emotional and physical gas tank is a little empty right now.”
Offensively, the Aggies performed in typical fashion with Logan Lednicky, Caroline Meuth and Bianna Muoneke producing double-digit kills and also adding a handful of digs and blocks to the stat sheet.
Muoneke controlled the offense and had a dominant showing throughout the match, totaling 12 kills, six digs, one block and hitting a .357 clip.
In her freshman season, Muoneke has been a guiding light for the Aggie offense.
Recording 36 digs, the defense also performed at a satisfactory level.
But the real struggle was in the serve receive and A&M’s inability to stop the Bulldogs’ service efforts.
Georgia totaled eight service aces while A&M tallied just one ace.
What’s more, the Bulldogs also hit a .330 clip — nearly double the Aggies’ .190.
“We need to get our offense firing,” Morrison said. “We have been doing some player specific work and I am excited to see that pay off in future games. We need to dive into the details and make sure we get our train back on the tracks."
In the first set, Muoneke made her presence known early but was unable to single-handedly stop the Bulldogs and their scoring runs.
Small mistakes such as serve receive and blocking errors put the Aggies in a hole they couldn’t climb out of as they dropped the first set, 25-23.
The second set saw the same mistakes doom A&M from the beginning. Service errors and net violations riddled the Aggies and hindered their ability to fight back.
Lednicky earned the first four points on kills but it wasn’t enough to make a difference.
The third set felt eerily similar to the final set against Florida on Friday as the Bulldogs gained an early lead and maintained control the rest of the way.
Despite a five-point scoring run, the Aggies fell ineffective through the remainder of the set as Georgia ran away with the match, 25-18.
Texas A&M will face Tennessee in Knoxville next Sunday before returning home on Nov. 3 to take on Alabama.
