I agree with you - Tanev was a beast. Miro put in long minutes and was very good. Harley got better as the series went on and was very good in game 7, imo.

Excited for tomorrow's game, but not happy that I cannot go.

Hakanpaa got destroyed last playoffs by Vegas too, I don't think he's the answer we're looking for. And I don't believe we have one on our roster. You gotta hope Nils' speed provides some cover for his dumb mistakes enough times

Nils Lundqvist played like 6 minutes a night the entire first round. I think the ship has completely sailed on him. At least Hakanpaa can be a guy you can throw out there for third pair minutes. We cannot continue to play five d-men. They will be wrecked.

Pete said today that Jani is skating but Mush is closer to returning. Said both could play in the series.


He also previously gave some examples of teams going on long playoff runs with only 4 D-men carrying majority of the minutes so he seemed to indicate that he was comfortable as is. How much of that is coach speak and how much is reality, idk.

Nils might have a chance to play slightly more this series because of the style of play. He was a terrible fit for the Vegas series. Then again, he didn't exactly instill a ton of confidence in the limited action he saw. I would assume he'll still see around 4-5 minutes tonight, depending on how the game is flowing.

I've been worried about playing only 5 d-men, but here's why I think it can continue to work:

Nobody is being asked to do too much.

Harley is playing significantly more than last postseason, but he was playing Suter-type minutes then.
Miro's minutes haven't gone up (technically down slightly).
Suter is playing 5 minutes less per game which is a great thing...and it shows on the ice.

Hanley was only playing around 13 minutes per game last year and Jani was right around 20.
With Tanev and Lindell playing right around 23 minutes, I think this is sustainable for a little while.

Odd how hard it is to find a babysitter and/or somebody who can attend a 8:45 weekday sports match.

In the last series, when Nils' time-on-ice for a game was 3:09 or less (2:21, 1:09, 2:57, 3:09), the Stars were 4-0. When he logged more minutes (7:33, 10:00, and 4:33), they were 0-3. Correlation, causation, or just coincidence? I don't know.

So instead of switching to our game we have to get some commercials in before sending it to the studio. **** ESPN. I get ESPN and ESPN2, but not ESPNU.

I wouldn't be surprised if they move it to ESPN2 here in a bit. The Louisville game is ending in a bit.
