I think I heard the broadcast say he was 5 for 7 last year. That's insane considering our best guys are usually in the 40% area.

He and Robo were both 5-7 last season. Huge to have your first two guys be that good.

He's a guy that needs to be on one of your top skill lines. He doesn't really slot in on the Faksa line. We just have a lot of good players and are lucky that we don't need him this year unless there are a couple injuries.

We need to hope Roope can stay healthy most of if not all of the year. He's the engine that drives this vehicle, and when he's not in the lineup you can tell.

I didn't get to see the game last night due to work, but can I ask about the thought process on this one? Analytics seem to favor the Stars from last night's game in pretty much every category. It looks like St. Louis was a Binnington performance away from a 2-3 goal loss.

I'll add:

I don't think the defense was particularly bad. The defensmen played a fairly clean game.

I was watching Lundkvist specifically and he looked good on the offensive end. I would like to see him be a little more assertive and aggressive on his defensive zone exits, but that will come. He was physically outmatched a couple of times, but that's not his game or an expectation for him. Lindell I think pairs well with him because he'll stay home and allow Nils to be aggressive offensively.

Couldn't help but get distracted watching Miro. He does so much all over the ice. Unlike anything I ever remember seeing. He's elite.

The rest of the d corps looked fine. Not great, but not a liability. I think the pairings are the best way to distribute talent.

Structurally, team defense was OK. I think St. louis controlled the style of play for parts of the 1st and most of the 2nd, which is why it may have seemed the defense was bad. But the Stars really improved as the game went on and played a solid 3rd.

Other thoughts:
Johnston looked confident and pretty great. I would be shocked if there's any sort of "sophomore slump".
Matt Duchene was such a phenomenal pickup.
Roope Hintz really drives that top line. Robertson has never been a speedster and Pavelski is old, but the lack of speed from those two is more glaring without a fast center that pushes play. As good as Seguin was last night, he's not Roope.
Like what I saw from Smith & Steel. Steel especially. And that 'stache looks amazing.

This should be a fun season. Trying to convince the wife to ditch our kids and get to Vegas next Tuesday. That should be a good one.

When Suter was introduced before the game the crowd started booing him loudly.

I've never liked Suter's game, but damn that was rough to see a guy booed so much while taking the ice on opening night.

There may have been a few boos, but it was mostly "Suuuuu".
