It was a frustrating loss, mostly because it could've ended differently. So much turned on losing that first set. Morrison said in his press conference that they "made too many errors." A lot of talk here and with the announcers focused on service errors and of course 5 is unsustainable. But I also think it's not the whole story.

In that first set, we had three hitting errors off of perfect passes. Our setter was almost decapitated twice on line shots from Gillan when I'm sure the defensive strategy was to force her cross court to Underwood. We allowed an easy setter dump to take them to match point. And when we had the serve at match point, to avoid the service error, we sent over a lollipop that they passed in system and killed for the set win.

Conversely, in the third and fourth sets, their service pressure was fierce. We have to be able to serve hard to move the opposing setters off their spot to take away options and allow the block time to setup. We have to keep the foot on the service gas to get where we want to go.

Morrison mentioned much of the team was sick and talked about mental fatigue. Hopefully they get well before the quick turnaround to Gainesville to take on a beatable Florida team. After that Arkansas match I feel very encouraged, seeing improvement from the UH and TCU performances against an even higher ranked team. It feels like we're very close to breaking through to the next level. We'll have several chances in the next few weeks to see.

Game tomorrow has been moved to ESPN!

Massive game. Florida's All American setter went down last week and they have a D2 grad transfer trying to figure it out. They are a big, powerful team with a potent attack. Here are my things to watch:

1) Can we match their physicality? Can our block slow down their attack? Can we terminate against their big block?
2) Can we handle the back row attack. They run it often and effectively. Our defense hasn't excelled in the few situations where we have seen it.
3) Can we serve them out of system? I think this could be the key to the entire match. If we move them off the net, their setter could struggle and their superpower could be reduced.
4) How will we hold up mentally? Morrison has talked about this a lot in his press conferences - training that muscle to endure hardship and compete. There's no way to get through a match like this without getting beat up at times.

Nice to see the team fighting against a really good Florida team.

Whatever way this match goes, big props to Morrison and his staff for all the work they have done for Ifennas offense. She has made huge strides since last year and even from the beginning of this season.
