Women's field is wide open. I can't even take a guess. It may end up being someone I've never heard of. Halep pulled out. Serena is not Serena. Kenin out? I haven't heard much from her.

Men's side. I hope Thiem will finally get it or maybe Tsitispas. Shapapolov almost beat Nadal few weeks back on clay. Young ones are in striking distance.

Couldn't believe Thiem won the first two sets and lost the match.

Hat's off to Andujar.

Can't go wrong picking Nadal to win, am I right?

Any female can win, seemed like this every year at the French. This is the one major where I'm not surprise when a high ranking male for female loses in the first or second round. Many players don't do great on clay.

Osaka withdrew today. Didn't want to take press questions for her mental health.

I've never been a big fan of her but this kinda seals it.

I have despised Osaka from the beginning. However, the fact that she dropped out without making excuses definitelyEarned some points in my book.

You can tell she is uncomfortable answering questions as she sure doesn't come across as the most intellectual person. But She sure didn't mind using social media and the press to influence kids that George Floyd and the like were heroes and she didn't mind allowing her pictures in a swimsuit to be sent out to the world.

I will be surprised if she stays humble and recognizes she was in the wrong on the way she handled this. I fully expect her to come out promoting herself as the victim. Having said that, she hadn't done that yet so she might surprise me with the opposite.

Osaka has stated that she is an introvert. Obviously. She has been fighting depression ever since her US Open win. She wasn't ready for the sudden success and the spotlight that comes with winning a major.

While I am not one to demean any form of mental health or distress, my untrained and unprofessional opinion is that she's a product of having a gen Z attitude towards life with world level tennis talent.

i.e. she's an idiot 20 year old that's grown up in the most disconnected generation that also has ungodly athletic abilities. Being put on that pedestal at that age obviously will go to your head and she probably hasn't been trained to handle pressure.

ETA: idiot is used in a general term. I was an idiot 20 year old.

I think she really is having genuine mental health issues. I don't think she knows how to or has the ability to handle the off court pressures and responsibilities. She's really just a kid who is good at tennis - no more than that.

I don't think the French officials handled the situation well at all.

How were they supposed to handle it? They indicated they reached out to her continually once they were alerted of the issue and she did not respond. Rules are rules and if you don't provide an Avenue of communication, then you can't expect the rules to be bent for you.

They shouldn't have openly and publicly threatened her about disqualifying from the French and future grand slam tournaments. It's a poor way to handle a situation with someone suffering from a stress and anxiety disorder and depression.

Would you call out an employee of yours in a group meeting threatening suspension because of a health condition?

I get your point but she just couldn't deal with the situation and the open threat simply exacerbated a bad and unfortunate situation.

Both parties could have handled the situation better and both parties lost.

Welcome to 2021...when the known rules (and penalties for not adhering to them) are transformed for the purpose of loaded language into being "threats".

Next time extrapolation will be because she is a minority.

To address SA68AG's question, if my employee openly stated to the entire team copying me that she wasn't going to attend required team meetings whereas everyone else is required, then yes I believe I would need to address the potential consequences with said team. You don't make up the rules for your employer. That's just not how it works.

If it was such a personal issue, then she could have handled it privately. She chose to publicly state she wasn't going to follow the rules with the expectation that she was bigger than said rules. She found out otherwise and then rightfully did the right thing and removed herself from the responsibilities.

I applaud the grand slams for not caving to this public nonsense. However, I fully expect the race card and mental illness card to be pulled, sponsors to get scared and for the grand slams to backtrack.

Federer defeats Cilic in 4. Odd that Fed got a time violation while Cilic still had 13 seconds on his time clock to serve. Fed had a 3 minute discussion with the Ref. Was not too happy.

Serena loses in 2. Gets broken 5x. Federer pulls out due to injury. I don't think either has it in them to win another Major. Age has caught up.

Djokovic loses the 1st 2 sets in tiebreaks to a 19 year old and then just blew him away to where he had to retire in the 5th.

6-7, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, 4-0
