So glad outdoor track is back! It's been way too long! Lots of interesting entries here, the 400 hurdles is going to be so fun to follow! If we can have 3 guys under 50 that'll be huge for our team! Hopefully Lamara is healthy enough to triple jump, I've been anxious to see her get a mark out there! Hopefully her and Cinyamon can go over 44 and secure a spot into the preliminaries! I wonder if the two 400's in a row for Dixon and two 1500's in a row for Clay are workout type things or leaving room for Orange and Miller in the 800 so we can spread points around! Also awesome to see Deon Lendore running with the 400 guys I lol'd at that

I am interested to see Dominique Mustin in 400 hurdle. She had a breakout season in the hurdles just before coming to A&M. She ran a 42.03 in the 300m hurdles. We need points from the 400m hurdles as well
Still no sign of Adriana Shockley. I am not sure if she is redshirting or we will see her later on in the seasan. She is yet to be registered on Directathletics.

Me as well! She should have the strength for it training for the 800, but if she can drop below a minute and closer to 57/58 that would be incredible! Thankfully we get to see Summer Thorpe and Kaylah Robinson competing outdoors, I believe both can hopefully get below 13!! Hopefully one of the javelin girls can breakout whether it's 5th year senior Jenna Ellis, Natalie Schiefele, or Chico's daughter! I'd also love for Cinyamon to have a huge breakout meet, I know foils have been her Achilles heel but I believe she's a 45+ jumper and that would have been a 5th indoors! Along with Taryn Milton in the long and Lajarvia Brown in the triple! We have an excellent jumps crew! And as for Shockley I wonder if it's sitting out a year required since she transferred in conference, like Orange had to do! I thought they did away with that, but who knows!

On the men's still sucks some of our sprinters will be out due to covid, but Devin Dixon and Carlton Orange finally being able to run should alleviate that pain! I'm hoping Orange can go 1:45 and that should be enough for a top 4, 5 finish this season! Dixon will be pushed by Hunter of Oregon but I'm always putting my money on Dixon! It's going to be interesting to see Clay in the 1500 as well, a 3:44 in high school is a huge time, hopefully he has the strength and endurance to drop that closer to a 3:40! And somehow some way we will always manage to have 400 hurdlers, James Smith did run his best 400 indoors on the relay splits, as he was usually around a mid 47 with Arizona where he dropped a 49.6, so hopefully he can drop a lower 49! And Dewitt Thomas and Mpoke can follow him into the 49's as well! And hopefully Nick Mirabelli is okay, but if Petersson and Hankins are above 230 they have a shot at points as well!

Yeah great analysis.
Did Pat Henry say which sprinters would be out this weekend?
The start list still showing Broome, Achane and Comick in the 200m and the 4x100m has
Darius Clark
Devon Achane
Jace Comick
Lance Broome
Kirk Collins, Jr.

Sadly he said one of the sprinters tested positive and that essentially takes out a relay, so I'm assuming it's 3 or 4 of those guys

yeah I was hoping to see some huge throws from Josh, but he fouled his three in the finals, the anticipation of having outdoors and the pressure of it might be getting to some people! Hopefully on a good day he's close to 190! And also the website for live results is so slow, I hate it!

59.37 for Mustin in the 400m hurdles. Not a bad opening run

Great first run, would've ranked 10th in the sec 2019 outdoors! Probably had no one pushing her as well!

Great time for Achane, he's definitely gonna hit his stride outdoors and drop that to a 20.3 or 20.4! I'm dissapointed in Comick's time, hopefully he can bounce back in the 100!

I expected better from Comick too but let's see as he was in lane 1. Broome should have run a little faster too

The good news is that we do have a 4x100 relay team in Broome, Achane, Comick and Clark.
They are yet to confirm the women 200m first heat. The clock had started and stopped after 4 seconds

Brandon Miller placed second in the 1500 with a 3:50
Eric Casarez 5th with a 3:55
Allon Clay 10th with a 3:59
Brady Grant 12th with a 4:51

Shocking to see Clay struggle so much, he has not been able to reach his high school times! Hopefully he can have that huge 800 race this outdoor season!

3 foot PR for Jenna Ellis as she threw the javelin 149'11 to place 4th in the javelin! They haven't updated the women's long jump :/

Coach Henry's quotes after day 1. It is interesting that he wasn't pleased with the discuss throwers.

Head Coach Pat Henry
on the first day of competition:
"I'm pleased with some of the things that happened today and not as pleased with some areas. Overall, it was a pretty good day and kind of set us up to see what we can do tomorrow."

on what stood out:
"Our long jumpers competed, didn't necessarily jump far but they won. Our intermediate hurdlers probably had the best day of anybody. Dominique [Mustin] running a 59.37 is a good opener for her. Our group of male hurdlers ran well. James [Smith, Jr.] to run 49.95 and Mo [Moitalel Mpoke] to run 50-point are good runs for the first time on the track. I also thought Devon [Achane] looked good in the 200m."

on Julia Black:
"I thought Julia [Black] looked pretty good. To get one under her belt was good because it has been awhile. She learned some things about what she needs to do inside a race because she is going to have to run much faster than that to be competitive, but still it's her best race and that's what you have to do is get on the track and run the best you can each opportunity you have."

on the men's throwers:
"I wasn't pleased with our male discus throwers. Our javelin group doesn't look to be 100%, first meet of the year and that's not good. Sam [Hankins] competed well. It's a learning experience for him because he's a freshman, he's never competed against this level of competition."

Yeah I was surprised with the day the throwers had! I love to concentrate on the throws and with the way Josh Brown has improved and competed in the weight throw I'm sure he has done the same in the discus and just tried too hard! I know in 2019 he was competing really well and at times even better than Gabriel Oladipo who had almost 30-40 feet of a pr better than Josh in high school! So I'm sure he'll be able to bounce back! The javelin throwers really surprised me and I was hoping they were going to be a strong point of this meet, I'm not sure of the conditions at the stadium but Henry mentioning them not being at 100 percent makes it seem they're either training through this week or a little banged up! And being an advocate for the throws it still sucks that we have zero female throwers in the shot put, hammer throw, or the discus competing even at a low level competition. Texas just has so much talent in the throws and we can't get our share of them! I think Tyra Gittens is our best female shot putter this season lol
taylorswift13

But to counter that, I'm very pleased with the day the hurdlers had! In a race where times drop through the season like no other, starting off below 50 seconds and below a minute is absolutely great for James Smith and Dominique Mustin! I think both can drop their time, given it was Smiths first hurdle race in over 2 years and Mustins first ever collegiate race in that event! I'm sure Mpoke will just keep improving and becoming stronger and stronger as he trains in our program, so I can easily see him going sub 50, and getting a shot to qualify for nationals! Hopefully the momentum continues with the 100 hurdlers and we can get some low 13's maybe even 12.9 out of the girls!

As for the jumps, the facility may not have been the best place for jumps as many athletes preformed lower than their seed. And from the pictures the team posted that runway did look kind of rough, but we'll see how they do in the triple today!

I agree with you. We have not done well with recruiting hammer, discuss and shot throwers. Our record in shot put is from 2007. The last time someone threw over 16 m was Brea Garrett back in 20015. Besides Texas there are a lot of junior college and D11 athletes we can look at. While we continue to focus on sprints, hurdles, and mid distance having one or two potential scorers in shot, discuss and hammer can be a great plus to the team. Yes Tyra has been our best Shot putter for some years now. We had Brea Garrett and Shelbi Vaugh here recently that could have helped our recruitment in the throws department. We have a lot athletes in the throws group we have not seen indoors or outdoors that are on the roster but looking at their stats they may have some potential but in future years.

Yeah it's rough to see after those two girls were All American dominant type athletes! And with no strong female javelin throwers this might be the first time in a long while we get zero points in conference from women throwers! Josh Brown and the javelin guys can score in conference, but there's just so much talent in state that we are not recruiting well on! 1 month into the Texas high school season there's already 11 girls over 140 in discus and we might not have anyone who can throw that! I'm hoping we can win a national title this season in either the men's side or most likely the women's side so we can recruit better the 2022-2023 cycle! There is promise in Bryce Foster who has brother has said can throw the 16 pound shot put already nearly 58/59 feet, and Katelyn Fairchild who has thrown the javelin over 163! Both can help our throws program in the future!

Not a bad start for the women, and either the men dropped the baton or pulled up! That's rough to see, I'm assuming Ryan Martin was the one who tested positive for Covid, he would a huge piece to this relay, along Comick, Achane, and Broome

I was expecting at least a 43 from the women but looking at the results it is showing Robinson on the second leg which I assume is the hurdler so if that is the case then not a bad time.
Don't forget on the mens team Yeboah as well
