SEC Swimming and Diving Championship 2021

The SEC women's championship swimming starts this Wednesday in Georgia while the Diving will take place in Missouri.

The psych sheet is shown below

Notably absent from the list is Grace Wey a 53.19 100m and 1.56 200m backstroker. She swam recently against LSU and now is off the roster.
Also not on the psych sheet is freestyler Haley Yelle.

A top 5 place would be commendable for the Aggies with 14 freshmen on the roster. Steve knows how to get it done so we may be in for some surprises from the Aggies

The men's championship is one week later in Missouri

Day 1

After day 1 of the SEC women's swimming and diving championship the Aggies lead the standings with 185 points thanks to 87 points from the 1M diving.

200 medley relay
The Aggies place 5th with a season's best time of 1.37.49. Although the time was outside the NCAA B provisional qualifying time of 1.37.05, it was a commendable performance with three freshmen swimming the breast, fly and free legs. Chloe Stephanek anchored the relay with a great 21.63 seconds for the 50 free.

800 relay
The Aggies placed 6th inside the NCAA provisional B time of 7.05.88 with a time of 7.02.93 which was also a seasons best time. Freshman Chloe Stephanek again was splendid with a 200 free opening leg of 1.43.36 which ranks top 3 in the NCAA and the second best time by an Aggie in the 200 free just outside the school record of Claire Rasmus of 1.43.01

Day 2 results

500 free
The Aggies scored 9 points in this event with Camryn Toney winning the C final in a PB of 4.44.12

200 IM
Jing Quah place 2nd in 1.57.22and Caroline Thiel placed 4th in 1.57.65 (PB) in the C final scoring 12 points for the Aggies. They both could have been in the B finals if they had swam these times in the prelims.

50 free
Freshman Chloe Stephanek placed 6th in B final in 22.35 just off her PB of 22.26. She scored 13 points for the Aggies

200 free relay
The Aggies placed 10th in a time of 1.31.47 outside the NCAA B provisional time of 1.29.21. Th team was made up of two freshman and a sophomore. Bobbi Kennett led off the team in a PB of 22.89.

3M Diving
The Aggies went 1-2 in this event

Yes we would always score lots of point on the breaststroke. This year we have one junior breaststoker and 5 freshman. So this year is a building year for the Aggies.
In fact almost all the freshman breaststrokers this year have already PRed. Freshman Ayala Smith went 59.76 to win the B final. We have 5 under 1.02.00 so come next year we should be back to our high scoring in the breaststroke

We would normally score lots of points in the 200 IM and 400 IM also. Jing Quah and the other IMers were under their best in this meet. Hope we get back to having great IMers next year.

Th Aggies finished 6th in the final SEC standings.
Kentucky won their first SEC championship

We definitely had the potential to score lots more points on the last day but it didn't happened. We had some good swims though with many PBs.

Kyle Powers injured a groin muscle while warming for the 100 breast final and didn't swim the 400 medley relay and the 200 breast.

We would have now about 8 potential qualifiers to NCAA and 4-6 women might just be outside the cut line. So Aggies might compete in some last chance meets to try to get more qualifiers.

Only one relay would have qualified for NCAA. If we can get a couple more B provisional marks in the relays then the women who have qualified could potentially swim those relays with B provisional times

Men's SEC Championships started today with 2 relays.

A&M opened with a school record 1:23.28 in the 200 Medley (old record 1:23.49) to finish tied for 2nd. Florida won with a 1:23.17.

In the 800 Free Relay Florida's Kieran Smith opened with the second fastest 200 free ever at 1:29.48, but A&M hung tough and finally took the lead in the last leg to win in a school record 6:11.63 (old record 6:11.87).

Shaine Casas time trialed 41.68 100 free at the American Short Course Champs today. 41.66 won SEC. Not much he can't do.
