Once again a great comeback to win the 4thset only to sag to begin the 5th and lose,

Too youthful this year .

Another very disappointing loss.

The team has lost 9 of 12 five-set matches this year. In the last four such losses, the fifth set was not competitive (8-15 USC; 8-15 Miz; 10-15 Bama; and 5-15 Kentucky). Data is taken from the Volleyball web site.

I see enthusiasm and effort that repeatedly gets the team to the edge of success in lengthy, close matches, but losses are by far the most frequent result. IMO, the results indicate a coaching issue.

Ags beat ole miss 3-1. Ragged last set, but they came out a winner. It's going to take an upgrade in talent to get the program near or to the top of the SEC.

6th not near the top ?

6th is better than 7-14. I was thinking 1, 2, or 3. and Competing for the championship. We don't have a winning record in SEC play and still finished 6th. I don't know how often this happens but our middle front line player was setup to spike the ball and totally whiffed. I don't know that I have ever seen that before or how often that actually happens. Point for Ol' Miss in a close 4th game.

Need an upgrade at pins for us to compete. Middles are doing fine. Serving specialists are not very good at all except Taylor Voss.

Talbert had some good kills today. Nice to see the team not panicking in the 3rd and 4th set when Ole Miss went on a couple of runs to get within two.

Pretty funny to see another pathetic group of teasips posing as opposing team fans just like they did last year in our match against Tennessee. Maybe we should invite them back for every match, because we typically win every time they pull that stunt.

Tk we do win almost every time. Frat has done it each year for last five. Kinda funny. Started out one year with a guy whose girlfriend played for our opponent and has become a yearly thing. Love it because I think they bring something to the game and we usually win !!

As for middles. We have three that can play and while none are the freak athlete that some teams possess out of the middle I like the way they play and we have those three in Talbert Patterson and Austin Roark for three more years and Patterson for two more. Fields has done well on the right side when she transitions to hit and the set isn't too far inside. Problem has been that the OH 2 position hasn't made a dent for the last few weeks and Hans will get her kills but can sometime have quite a few errors. We passed well today especially Howser and Conner has some solid serving.
If we continue with OH2 being Palmer as we ended today then I would like to see Voss be the serving sub for the middle as she has a solid ball that drops late towards the end line.

How's recruiting going? I know the new coach was thought to be able to quickly up the talent.

I didn't see anything on the kid from Texarkana that was suppose to be a top recruit. Morgan Davis' sister is signed and a libero/ds from the Libero factory of assumption HS is as well. Concerned the Texarkana kid I haven't seen anything as of now

Slightly OT: Genny (Wood) Volpe has Rice in the NCAA tourney for the fourth time ever.

Genny Volpe has done some great things at Rice and glad to see it payoff. She has had some teams that were on the cusp of the tourney only to lose in the conference tourney and miss out

It would be interesting to see Texas Rice Tx State and say UT-RGV in Austin. Normally that would be a cakewalk and still Texas would be favored but Texas State has done somea really great things with ex Florida setter Huskey playing really well
Love that family of VB players.

The ladies just beat LSU 3 - 2 to finish our season. Right now we are in 6th place, although if UF beats USC we can finish in a tie for 5th. However, we lost both matches to USC, so we would lose the tie breaker if that mattered at all.

We finish 10 - 8 in the SEC and 17 - 13 overall. Six of our 8 SEC loses were 2 - 3, and we were never swept in any SEC matches. We only lost to one SEC team that finished below us - to 'Bama at home. But we also didn't beat any of the top five teams in the conference, although we came really close, losing 2 - 3 5times to those top 5 teams. A final positive note is that we won our last 4 games and 5 of the last 6.

IMO, it's clear we are an improved team over last year, even though we'll probably finish with an RPI in the 80's. Next year we need to improve enough more to qualify for the NCAA's. I believe there was only one senior this year, so the outlook appears to be bright. I'll hope those who have more technical knowledge comment.

I think we are improved from last year but I think we would have been improved regardless of coaching staff. We finished with a better record this season but RPI we were much worse. Our biggest win was to Pepperdine according to RPI. I see a lot of positives going into next season. If we can get production from the OH2 position and RS along with replacing Howser as libero who did really well AND FINISH matches we will make NCAAs next year I think

The above was not an indictment against the current staff. It was based upon a bunch of factors but also these are all the previous staff recruits. Eager to see the new staff players come in next year

Seems like we made the win a lot harder than it needed to be. Good comeback in set 1 to take a 23-22 lead but then lost 3 straight points. In Set 3 I counted 6 service errors. But we were strong in the last 2 sets. Need to get Hollan Hans to the NCAA Tournament next year.

Next year players coming in are not current staff players either unless transfers. They were committed and signed prior to birds hire. Unless you are referring to possible transfers?

Bird is the Word. She will get us to a championship level.

The player from Texarkana is a Bird recruit I believe. Ranked 11 in prepvolleyball senior aces. The younger sister from Florida of Morgan Davis is a Corbelli recruit
The DS from Assumption HS is also a Bird recruit I believe. Also the DS who was ineligible this season was brought in by Bird. Without anybody leaving we will have 23 in the roster. Way too many but probably for the best for a year of transition

8 of our losses went to the 5th set. 6 of those losses were to conference opponents.

Of the 12 non-conference opponents the only two that made the tournament were Pepperdine and Penn State.
We beat Pepperdine 3-0 but Lost to Penn State 0-3

None of the other opponents (Ohio, Albany, Ohio State, Indiana, Temple, Nicholls, Missouri State, OU (2) and Northwestern State) made the tournament.

State teams that made the tournament are: Texas, Baylor, SFA, Rice and Texas State. SFA, Rice and Texas State are headed to Austin to take on the longhorns in the first and second rounds.

Not any longer. 3rd and 4th teams in the conference were Iowa State 16-13 9-7 in conference and Oklahoma 17-11 9-7 conference.

The SEC got five teams in the tourney. Went 5-0 in the first round. In the second round we went 2-3 with Tennessee SC and Missouri all get knocked out by seeded teams and Florida and Kentucky moving on.
So 7-3 so far with winnable matches in the sweet 16

Aggies went 0-7 against those teams that made the tourney from the SEC and 1-1 against other teams that made it in I believe

SEC finished the tourney with two in the Sweet 16
The overall record was 7-5.
Kentucky laid an egg against Nebraska. While I think Nebraska was favored Kentucky looked pretty bad

The SEC needs to really focus on better OOC scheduling and tap into the volleyball in the south especially Texas Florida and the Atlanta area
