The first indoor ranking came out earlier this week. The women checked in at No 10 and Men at No 17.
Can't believe as defending champion we got a ranking of No 17 especially when 20 plus individual points return this year from last year's indoor championship (Audie Wyatt, Will Williams, Mylik Kerley) and three of the 4 members of the victorious 4x400m relay. Honestly a ranking of No 17 is a total disrespect to our program.

Just some early season updates so far

The women distance medley relay broke the school record in 11.12.06. Great performance, Still need to improve to make NCAA this year. The slowest time from last year's qualifiers was about an 11.02.00

Very impressive today with the Triple jumpers. Lajarvia Brown went 13.31m (3 foul jumps) and should make NCAA. The final qualifier from last year was 13.24m. Ciynamon Stevenson was also impressive with 13.17m (with 4 foul jumps) and could also make NCAA. Nine qualifiers from last year graduated.

The long jumpers also did well. Tyra Gittens won in 6.16m over Lajarvia Brown in 16.15m ( 4 foul jumps). The final qualifier from NCAA indoor 2017 was 6.35m. Eight qualifiers from last year were senior and are no longer competing this year.

Tyra Gittens also has a high jump mark of 1.79m. She may need about a 1.84m to qualify for the high jump. (last year's final qualifier was 1.84m). If Tyra Gittens qualify for the Women's Pentathlon it could be difficult for her to also compete in the high and long jumps. Also the 3 events are on day 1 of the championships (based on last year's schedule).

On the men side a very impressive 400m run by Ilolo IZU in 46.34. Once he drops this time some more he can make the NCAA. Last year's last qualifier was 46.27. Eight qualifiers from last year have graduated. I expect Mylik Kerley, Robert Grant and Richard Rose to factor in the NCAA qualifiers

Jacob Wooten has Pole Vaulted 5.35m so far. A little improvement he can also make NCAA. The final qualifier from last NCAA was 5.46m. I also expect Audie Wyatt to make it. Four seniors graduated in this event.

Mr. Cragin had a good meet too. He is having a better season this year and it is early. Thought he was going to clear his last height, especially when he became less tentative on his last two tries.

On a completely off topic aside, I hate the revised false start rule.

On the women side we have a freshman hurdler Gabrielle McDonald from Jamaica joining the team. She has already enrolled.
She has PB of 13.12 in 100m hurdles and 56.53 in the 400m hurdles. She hasn't competed indoor before so there is no time for her in the 60m hurdles. I guess our coaches will have her ready for the 60m hurdles soon.
Great addition to the team. Potential scorer in both 100m and 400m hurdles outdoors and may also contribute to the relays.

Izu's 400m time from yesterday is currently the second best time according to tfrrs; he is right there with everyone else this early in the season. He had a 200m split of 21.75 which is between the splits that Lendore and Taplin ran during the Olympic Development race (21.57 and 21.86). Lendore was flying from 150m cones to the corner.

Outside of A&M, Trey Culver has already high jumped 7'-7 3/4", and Chris Nilsen pole vaulted 18'-4 1/2" this weekend. Looking forward to seeing them at the NCAA meet.

Does any one knows why Sammy Watson did not finish her 400m on Saturday? Was she injured?

She and Baird, in the 200, both pulled up after 100 meters as they reached the banking. Don't know how serious it is. Personally, after watching Watson run the mile, I thought she needed Saturday off.

Texas A&M Quadrangular ( A&M, Texas, Arizona State, Baylor) meet occurs this Saturday, January 20. Field events begin at noon, along with the prelims for 60m and 60m hurdles. If you can't make those events before the break, be sure and be there by 1:25 for the National Anthem, immediately followed by the womens' and mens' mile. Run fast, jump high, throw far, jump far!

Another great meet for the Aggies.
Several potential NCAA qualifiers. Remember the top 16 in every individual event qualify for the NCAA indoor championship.

These are some of the highlights from today's meet

On the men side
Jacob Wooten and Audie Wyatt both going over 5.50 m and should safely qualify for NCAA. Both attempted to break the school record (5.55 m) with a height of 5.57 m but failed.

Will Williams jumping 7.85 m in the long should put him in the NCAA top 16.

The 400m crew were also impressive. Both Mylik and Robert Grant time of 46.10 and 46.22 should be good enough to qualify. However I expect them to run faster as the indoor season goes along. Richard Rose won the slower heat in 47.10 and Bryce Deadmon running a PB of 47.63

Tyler Guillory running 7.96 in the 60m hurdles shows he is improving. He needs to get down somewhere about 7.75 to maybe have a chance of qualifying.

Looking forward to Devin Dixon opening up in the 800m. He split 46.60 in the 4 x 400m relay.

The 4x400m men relay looked pretty impressive in a meet record of 3.04.38 with Robert Grant 46.48, Mylik Kerley 45.34, Devin Dixon 46.60, Ilolo Izu 45.96 splits

On the women side

Great run by Danyel White in the 200m with a time of 23.10 and should be enough to qualify. I expect her to break 23 seconds soon. The other sprinters are improving each week. Brenessa Thompson 23.70 and Amber Ivy 23.93. Julia Madubuike had a PB of 24.16.

Jazmine Fray opened with a meet record in 800m with a time of 2.04.97. I expect her and Sammy Watson to qualify comfortably in the 800m. Britany Parker could be is a potential qualifier. She scratched today in the 800m but based on her 2.06.97 split on the Distance Medley relay, I expect her to improve her time. I hope she and Sammy Watson is OK and not injured too much.

Tyra Gittens improved her mark in high jump from 1.79m to 1.80m. Her time in the hurdles today was much slower 8.73 to 8.51 from her season opener. All the women sprint hurdles seems flat in the heats today and all ran very slowly.

Even though the women 4x400m relay lost to Baylor, they ran a good time of 3:36.35 Texas A&M (Jarra Owens 55.38, Jazmine Fray 52.75, Danyel White 53.61, Julia Madubuike 54.61) Not their strongest relay team but impressive splits from Jazmine Fray and Danyel White

Ashley Driscoll ran a personal best of 9:34.85 in the 3000m. Not an auto qualify, but very happy for her.

Was a fun meet to watch!

I thought Kelsie Warren looked good coming back from her injury. Kept up with Ashley for 2K before she walked off the track.

Scary thing about Audie is that he's jumping 18' and he doesn't look in form.

Also, looks like Jace strained something in the prelims and hopefully it's not serious.

Men jumped up to No 3 in the ranking. Much better than the initial low ball ranking. It will be hard to beat Florida this year if they qualify two jumpers in long jump and triple jump. Interested to see how Georgia shakes out this year on the women's side against Arkansas and Oregon. Nice big test for the SEC teams this weekend

Gittens first pentathlon this season. If her seasons bests for the 60H, HJ, LJ, and SP are tallied, the point total is just over 3500. If she runs 2:30 in the 800m the points would be around 4200.

Tyra Gittens scores 4,009 points to place third in pentathlon with a 2:38.29 in the 800m.
60m hurdles - 8.57
high jump - 1.75m
shot put - 12.32m
long jump - 5.89m
Even with th slow 800m. She could have easily scored about 4150 if she high jump and long jump were close to her seaaon best

Shaina Burns scores 3910 and Lajarvia Brown scored 3813. Lajarvia did pretty well in the hurdles and high jump 8.51 and 1.75 m but had a very slow 800m and a 9.57m shot put throw.

I expect great improvement from all 3 in their next outing. Shaina already scored over 4000 points from last year.
Probably need about 4100 points to nake NCAA. Last year final qualifier was 4076 points. Six senior graduated,

Going into Day Two, the women are in fifth with 22 points and seven events (of 16) scored. The men are in first with 41.5 points and six events scored. Noticed that Mr. Riba had a nice time in the DMR; he is looking back on form. He will have his hands full in the 3000 but a good challenge is just that. Good luck to all competing today!

Nice work by the teams in Fayetteville; 1st for the men and 7th for the women. Got a new nickname for Ms. Fray: Judge Jazmine because she throws down the hammer; 2:02.30 in the 800 meters! Well done teams! Look forward and keep on keeping on...

Was it the outdoor regionals or outdoor championship where she pulled out just before the meet and deleted her social media? With the hamstring issues she had, makes sense for her to go pro in order to not go thru the college indoor season and have fresher legs for the outdoor pro meets.

Most of our top runners were resting this week, but we had some good results.
Women:
  • I thought Kadecia and Jaevin looked good coming back from their injuries running in the 54s during their relay legs.
  • Virginia had a nice drop in her 200 time.
  • Julia M., Brittany Parker and Lauren Lawless had some nice 400m legs that we'll need come Outdoor season so we don't burn out some of the other girls.
  • Taryn Milton had 2 PB in the hurdles and LJ.
  • I wonder if Tyra Gittens is tired. She didn't look right when high jumping.
  • Lajarvia had another couple of jumps over 20'.
  • Shania Burns is in the top 10 for the pentathlon.
  • Karis and Kelsie looked for their indoor openers. They need some more fitness if they want to run 76-78 sec laps and keep up with some of the other top girls in our region when outdoors comes around.
  • Diamond Spaulding needs to get back in form. We need her running in the low 23s.

Men:
  • Jace Comick needs some more time to get back in form.
  • Audie Wyatt needs a week off or to start at some lower opening heights. Just looks off.
  • Gabe Oladipo will throw the SP over 60' soon.
  • Good depth by the men's 400m crew with Deadmon, Kyree Johnson, and Richard Rose. I'd like to see them get their times in the 46s.
  • Nathan Hite is close to qualifying for indoors in the Hept. Had a PB this weekend.
  • Good weekend for the Aggie Alumni running this weekend as well. Deon ran 45.85 after a year+ off and Bralon had that 44.88. Shamier and Jessica ran well, too.

Clemson this weekend and the Last Chance Qualifying/Twilight meet the following weekend then SECs.
