VBall: Aggies sweep Gamecocks, 3-0, ending regular season
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Texas A&M volleyball team ended their regular season play on Wednesday in a conference matchup against South Carolina, ending with a fashionable end as the Aggies swept the Gamecocks 3-0.
The true story behind Wednesday’s match against South Carolina (12-19; 3-15 SEC) isn’t that Texas A&M (19-11; 11-8 SEC) swept another team in November or that outside hitters Angela Lowak and Ashley Vrana tallied 10 kills apiece, but instead it is about the great senior class that touched the court at Reed Arena for the last time.
Seniors Mariah Agre, Kelsey Kinley, Heather Reynolds, Allie Sawtazky, and Ashley Vrana all said goodbye to the 12th man, leaving behind some big shoes to fill for the 2014 season.
We always think as coaches that we know what they should consider the most, but it never is right; it never is what they’re doing. They have their reasons, and we just have to sit patiently and see if they select us. I try to think positive, but it wouldn’t change anything no matter how I think.

But the 2013 season isn’t over for the Aggies, and the five seniors may have a chance to extend their collegiate careers with one final match.
Hope still remains for Texas A&M to earn a bid in the 2013 NCAA Tournament with the first round scheduled to begin Thursday December 5th. But unfortunately for the Aggies the decision making is out of their hands.
“It’s a national selection committee and there are many things they consider,” Texas A&M head coach Laurie Corbelli said. “We always think as coaches that we know what they should consider the most, but it never is right; it never is what they’re doing. They have their reasons, and we just have to sit patiently and see if they select us. I try to think positive, but it wouldn’t change anything no matter how I think.”
Sunday evening the NCAA Tournament selection committee will release their selections for the 2013 tourney at 7pm on ESPNU.
Fingers and toes crossed, Texas A&M’s patience will be tested over the next four days doing everything they possibly can to wait for the official announcement.
