On the men side, we will lose Henry Lelei, Sam Humphreys and Ameer Webb. That is about 30 points. It will be hard to replace them.

On the women side, we will have most of our athletes back except Donique Flemings.

The Texas coach has protested the start of the steeplechase. It looked like Lelei may have false started. They are trying to get him disqualified which might kill any chance at a national championship.

Texas as in t.u.? They didn't even have a runner in the steeplechase!

If Lelei keeps his 8 points, we did ok today.

Bubba would like nothing better than to be the reason A&M misses out on a championship.

Well, tu gets no more points even if Lelei is DQ'ed. So he either figures that would be enough to vault tu past us, or he is just jealous of Pat Henry.

We just can't seem to rid ourselves of them, can we?

Sips had a runner in the steeplechase, but he finished outside the top 12.

Trevor Van Ackeren of the sips was in the Steeple but did not advance to the finals. I do not know if that give his coach the right to protest or not. He could probably get another coach (with a runner in the finals) to protest.

Until they all are flushed down a sewer drain, we will never get rid of those things.

How/When, can we sitting at our computers learn of the decision on Lelei?

As a practical point, unless false starts are infectious to the point there are a lot of them, it's hard to see how that would be a problem in a distance race like the steeplechase.

The race itself was really a dichotomy, wasn't it. Three Kenyans in front and the rest running 200 yards behind. Wow! It's too bad Henri fell on the last water hazard, but it wasn't clear to me he would have been able to run down the man in front anyway. He made a great recovery to keep second.

I thought he was closing on the utep runner. He had a chance, but then decided to take a dip in the pool!

The Steeple winner, Rotich of UTEP, looked good in the Preliminaries. I do not believe Henry would have caught up with him, even w/o the fall.

I checked the Steeple results again. There is still that beautiful "8" beside Henry's name.

I am having trouble going to sleep. Too excited! Fed the cats, got a beer, and sat back down at the computer to look at all this data again. It is incredible how well we have done – MEN & WOMEN both. This year is the MEN’s year. The nest two years will be the WOMEN’s turn – they are going to be awesome. All these freshmen and sophomores.

Kansas will win the WOMEN’s Championship this year. I think that is incredible! How did their staff recruit the kind of talent they did?

Saturday, Day 4 = Today’s the Day -- CHAMPIONSHIP DAY

Today could be our first National Championship as a member of the SEC. A tremendous accomplishment!

The Magic number for the MEN is 60. Get 60 points and we definitely win!!! However, that will not be easy. We need to have an excellent day.

Florida has 5 very strong entries in today’s events. If we falter some, they could catch and pass us [if they have an excellent day]. Arkansas has 4 good to very good entries. Both Arkansas & Florida should get 50 points and one could approach 60 points.
