Joe Sauvageau qualified for nationals as an individual with his sixth place finish at regionals. Mitch Bible has an outside chance to make it depending on the at large team selections. Both are seniors. The men's team finished fourth. Arkansas won with 47 and Texas was second with 74. Lamar was third with 83 and we were fourth with 89.

On the women's side we finished ninth. SMU and Baylor went 1-2 to qualify as teams. Arkansas, Texas, Rice, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Houston and Stephen F. Austin all placed in front of us. Christina Munoz who qualified for nationals last year did not appear in the results. I don't know what happened to her.

Great to see an individual qualifier. It kills me that we're getting beat by in-state teams that shouldn't have any logical advantage over us in recruiting. I mean, no matter how bad of a town you think CS is, it's light-years ahead of BEAUMONT.

I can't believe that some of those kids won't come to A&M to run with no scholarship, if for no other reason than for the chance of riding the sprinters' coat tails to a NC ring.

The logical advantage of Beaumont is that the Lamar coach is allowed enough scholarships to bring over multiple foreigners on full rides.

el aggie is correct on that although they have been doing that for some time. Both A&M and Texas have beaten Lamar to qualify for the national meet because they don't get the best of the internationals to come over. The region was the weakest it has been in more than a decade and probably didn't even deserve a second team at nationals although each region is guaranteed two spots. Texas is lucky to be going because I don't think their team is very good.

I'm glad that Joe was able to have a strong race his senior year and qualify for Nationals. I really hope Mitch gets the individual at-large bid or that Lamar gets a team at-large bid moving him up to an automatic qualifier.
