I think its safe to say that with no post season for the 4th straight year, Corbelli is gone. Any thoughts?

A bit late, but due.

Off topic, but whether there is a move or not, I'd like to see us add Sand Volleyball. Would rather see Title IX scholi's going to a fun sport that folks might actually attend on campus.

I guess the question is "can we make the move?". Maybe we get a discount on the Corbelli's because there's 2 of them, and maybe the girls stay out of trouble and get good grades, and given the overall success of our athletics programs not named football and Cross Country, that's enough for volleyball to accomplish. I hate to say it, but if we have to sacrifice a sport, maybe volleyball (that competes opposite of football and futbol and thus would have to be REALLY good to draw any attention in the fall) just has to be the sacrificial lamb.

Hate to say it, but maybe it's true.

If that's the case, and I certainly hope its not, we can find someone a hell of a lot cheaper than the Corbellis to run the program into the ground. I'll do it for half their salary!

Volleyball has always drawn pretty good crowds to the games I've been too (been to many these past three seasons) and I can only imagine what would happen if they gave us more to cheer about.

Anyways, hasn't sand volleyball only recently been approved for varsity level competition by the NCAA? I know schools have club teams, but I don't imagine they'll be much quality sand volleyball on our campus that'll get big crowds interested.

We'd add bowling before sand volleyball...just like Nebraska...

I would watch bowling before any more lackluster volleyball matches.

The sand volleyball addition is going to another affirmation process in January before it is actually going to happen. It would really be a blast if it did, but I would much rather have Men's teams than Women's. I know that sounds a bit off, but the Women's game is not nearly as interesting to me as the Men's game. (At least on the lower levels, like the NCAA. You really don't understand how good some of the guys are until you see them play. Girls just can't compete on that same athletic level in the sport)

Well, isn't the the issue with all athletics in general?

The bonus of adding sand volleyball is that it's a spring sport, and likely doesn't require adding any more scholarships.

I've heard about adding sand volleyball, but still don't quite understand the format. Would it be set up like tennis, with individual & team National championships? Does this mean that we'd have to get 8 or so of the players to commit to sand volleyball?

The NCAA has already firmly ruled on this. Sand volleyball is now an emerging sport and varsity competition can begin during the 2010-2011 school year.

Anyways, I believe the NCAA is still working out the rest, such as playing dates and all that jazz, gobluwolverine.

Ahh, I see - I was made aware that they were a chance that the ruling was going through a appeal process with the final vote in January. I know it was passed the first time, but it might have just been a mistaken rumor. Obviously, I would prefer if it was legitimate
