I wish they would run those tests on Baylor Women's BBall commit Brittney Griner. She has a very deep voice.

I wish they'd give more specifics about what exactly the tests are that they run for this. Everything I've seen is pretty vague about it.

They should test Santos, the guy that beat up Carano last week, as well.

You know because 5-7, 160 lb women normally have 4-5% body fat & chins like Leno.

One would think the test would be pretty easy. Check to see if she has a uterus first. If she does and there are no traces of anti-rejection drugs it's a safe bet it's a woman.

If not, she should explain what happen to her uterus.

EDIT--I read where someone said the test is to see if she's genetically female. If that's the case, why is she the only one being given the test? Why doesn't everyone in the race have to prove they're a woman genetically?

I guess it only matters if you're good. And it sounds like it's not an easy test to do.

It's kinda like, if JR Towles was on steroids, would anybody care? No, because he still swings like a girl.

Up until 1999, they did have to prove their gender according to an ESPN article

Well, no one that isn't taking the same tests now should have a right to demand that she take them.

What's fair is fair.

Either the rule comes back completely or it's history.

This article

discusses a little more what they're looking at.

quote:
The gender test, which takes weeks to complete, requires a physical medical evaluation, and includes reports from a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, an internal medicine specialist and an expert on gender.

quote:
Gender testing used to be mandatory for female athletes at the Olympics, but the screenings were dropped in 1999.

One reason for the change was not all women have standard female chromosomes. In addition, there are cases of people who have ambiguous genitalia or other congenital conditions.

The most common cause of sexual ambiguity is congenital adrenal hyperplasia, an endocrine disorder where the adrenal glands produce abnormally high levels of hormones.

But Semenya's former school headmaster said he thought for years that the student was a boy.

"She was always rough and played with the boys. She liked soccer and she wore pants to school. She never wore a dress. It was only in Grade 11 that I realized she's a girl," Eric Modiba, head of the Nthema Secondary School, told the Beeld newspaper.

quote:
In 2006, the Asian Games 800 champion, Santhi Soundarajan of India, was stripped of her medal after failing a gender test. Perhaps the most famous case is that of Stella Walsh, also known as Stanislawa Walasiewicz, a Polish athlete who won gold in the 100 at the 1932 Olympics, and was later found to have had ambiguous genitalia.

What's odd to me, is that it's not like she broke a record. Sure, she won by a lot, but she was still over a second away from the record. So they're suspicious of someone that's slower than a world record, but not of Bolt, who is shattering records even after a year where he's been injured and hasn't had great training?

Uhh yeah, ok.

First off, none of that has been confirmed by the IAAF.

Second, the IAAF said that even if she is a hermphrodite, that they likely couldn't strip her medal away or anything, saying she was like that from birth and "has not cheated."

IMO, I don't think it'd be right to tell hermaphrodite who has lived a female's life from birth, they have to change over to the men's circuit.

Is it fair to the other women who have typical female biology and have to race against her? A sticky wicket indeed.

What the experts are saying is that every elite athlete has some biological advantage, and that's what makes them elite. Should Yao Ming be disqualified because he is a giant man? Etc. Especially given that she hasn't even broken the world record, that means that there has been women in history that have been born with an even more advantageous biological advantage.

I think I probably buy into this reasoning. One argument against it is that there is a different category of racing for men than women, whereas there is not a different category of basketball for giant men than regular sized men. But all along I've been thinking, how can they disqualify her when her "advantage" doesn't even allow her to break a record? I would think they'd be more concerned about what chemical enhancement has allowed Bolt to shatter the 100 and 200 WRs
