Id say its worth it regardless of how much time Pat Henry is involved. I mean its his camp, I am sure he will be around, lectures, etc.

I went to a Altitude Distance camp at Western State back in 2000 before my senior year in High School. I remember it being close to 900 bucks. The experience alone was worth the money. The CC coach was very involved with all the runners, but the team at the time was more involved with the workouts.

So 500 bucks, if your kid loves track at that age, send them. They will love it.

It should be a cool experience, but more importantly your 9 year old could learn a warm-up / plyo routine that will give them a foundation for any sport they choose to do in middle school and high school. If they stay motivated, and pay attention, the work he learns there will put him ahead of lots of other athletes as sports get more serious, as far as flexibility, strength, speed, and more importantly injury prevention.

That and it should be fun.

It's cheaper than a babysitter. Take a vacation.

Besides, Henry is all business. I'm sure he'll make it a valuable experience. He's probably trying to coach up all the 10 year olds he can knowing he'll have the pick of the crop when the time comes.

I've never been to a track camp, but I've been to other high profile coaches' camps in other sports. It's a great experience, if for nothing else than getting exposure to a whole week around people with amazing work ethic (the coaches, college athletes, and peers). The only problem you'll run in to is that they may learn some stuff that their local coach won't know, and this can cause a little friction from time to time. Make sure you have good communication on this.

For example, I learned the pick-and-roll from Ray Meyer (nickle for anyone who's old enough to know who that is without looking it up). He taught the pick and roll differently than most of the youth basketball coaches I had. This became a little bit of an issue at times.

But all-in-all, it was a great experience. So if you can afford it, go for it!
