A friend is arguing that Traditions is not owned by the university. I claim it is. Anyone know the correct idea.

Pretty sure it is not owned by the university. It is owned by investors I think.

It was owned partially by the city of Bryan, and Melrose Development. Within the past year, some investors have stepped in and purchased the Melrose interest.

Definitely not owned by the University. My parents live out there and are members. Somebody new just bought it, don't remember who it is but definitely not the university.

Not owned at all but the University and the city has not been a part of it for years. I think it is now owned by the Weitz Company.

A&M does not have any ownership in it. The license the name. Even the golf center was in trouble and not owned by them. The city of Bryan is still partner on all new lots and the additional land that will be developed. The new owners are Huddleston, Curry, and William Cole Group who manages it now instead of Troon. Chris Lampo is handling all food now.

I believe Troon still owns the golf course operations......

Melrose owned the property development, seperate from Troon. Melrose also owned similar operations in Georgia and Oklahoma City. Those two courses werent doing very well so revenue was being pulled from Traditions to keep those two courses a float. Worked for a little while, but soon the other two courses faltered.

OP is right, i just checked Troon's website, Traditions is no longer listed as a course involved with the company

Traditions should have never been set up under club corp or Melrose. Just a matter of time before it failed. Local investors with a local interest in the community should own, run and operate such a facility. The city of Bryan has not put any money. All they wanted was property tax revenue. The property tax structure in Texas is discouraging residential construction.

Troon is long gone. They were replaced by William Cole out of Houston who runs Houston national as well. I am a member and live out there. They failed because Melrose was losing money at all their other clubs and was funneling money from Traditions, that is why there never was a clubhouse built. The City of Bryan gets part of each lot sold. The City of Bryan loves it because of property taxes. They raised property values the max of 10% even though nothing is selling. Time to protest.

The investors who bought it from Melrose include former A&M football captain B.P. Huddleston and A&M benefactor Peter Currie and a couple other guys. They put up a lot of money, well into the 8 figures.

Still got a good deal, they were able to buy the old loans cheap. The course cost around $12m to build alone.
