The psych sheet is posted here.

Best seeded Aggie relay is the 200 medley relay - 10th.

Best seeded Aggie individual is Balasz in the 100 free - 22th.

Looks like reasonable chances to score points in the 200 medley relay, 400 free relay (13th), 200 free relay (17th), 400 medley relay (16th).

The field is tight so small improvements in times can move you a lot up or down.

Stanford and tu are the only two teams with 18 athletes. Cal and Auburn have 16, Arizona 15.

the guy's 200 free relay is actually 17th, not 25th

Anyone care to venture a guess at who will come out on top?

As seeded, Stanford has an advantage in the relays, but t.u. seems to be ahead in the individuals. Auburn has a good shot at sweeping the relays (except 800), which could make up for a couple fewer individual swims.

Not sure what it looks like this year, but historically t.u. and Auburn will be about even in diving, with Stanford losing ground.

Any darkhorses? Seems like Cal and Arizona aren't in a great position to win it. Obviously, who knows about tapers.

I initially looked at the preliminary psych sheet - I fixed the ranking of the 200 free relay.

Based on just the psych sheet, Swimming World magazine predicts:

Auburn>Stanford>Texas>Cal>Arizona

I think it will be interesting as usual to see who swims well. I think some of the PAC 10 teams have been guilty of focusing on the PAC10 championships and not swimming well at NCAAs. Stanford was very fast in CS at the Art Adamson invite.

tu was much better last year than the year before. Auburn is better than I expected them to be because I though Marsh leaving would hurt them more. Matt Targett could take down Cielo's 50 record. The SEC championships were several weeks ago - so Auburn may have a better chance to keep speed across two tapers.

Can the Aggies hang on to the speed they had in Austin during the Grand Prix?

Eric Sehn just qualified for NCAAs after the first of three events at the Zone meet. Things are looking good for the Ags.

More importantly, McLean was third and Nel fourth...one more day like that and A&M will get three divers into the meet

So Missouri will not have any swimmers at NCAAs?

FIFY

Cernansky, their breasktroker, is the 5th alternate so there's still a chance for him, however slim. Same for diving - but 2 out of the 5 slots are already claimed by us and texas.

Things are going pretty well for the Aggies at zones so far.

Grant and Eric are in.

Cam will be in as long as the platform is won by him and/or the 4 that have already qualified (Sehn, Wilcox, Livingston, Nel).

On the girls side, Jaele is in, for any other Aggies to make it, they'd need bare minimum 4th on the platform if they got some help, 3rd would guarantee it.

How does it work for an alternate?

People that have already made the meet must be removed -- be it by unfortunate circumstance or perhaps by a team's diver(s) qualifying and bumping out the #18 swimmer (see: Texas)

This might be a dumb question, but what is the significance of the "invited" time? I always thought that anything below that line were the guys who qualified in other events and had the B cut to swim their extra events, but our half our relays are below the invited line and Makany's 100 free is the only individual above the line.
gobluwolverine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There's slightly different rules for relays. For example, if all 4 members are swimming in other events, then they can get together and swim a relay. There's also an exception if the best times of the 4 relay members adds up to faster than the invited cut time.

I'm honestly not sure about our relays and how they got in, I was kinda wondering the same thing. Just glad they made it in.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hmmm... Maybe our guys are invited in on the 2 relays that are above the line, and could add up a good enough relay time on the others. I just didn't know there was that option in relays.

Blu is right. Since the 200medley was invited, Bergstrom, Lavery, Loncaric, and Strange were invited. This means Bergstrom, Lavery, and Loncaric can swim the 400Medley (since it has the B cut), and since Balazs got invited, he can do free on that relay. Same goes for the 200FrR. Strange, Raiford, Balazs, and Clarke got invited via 400FrR, so they'll swim the 200FrR.

That was kinda complicated I guess, but bottom line is, any relay that has a B cut can be swam at the meet by any personnel that is at the meet for that team.
smarterthanyou
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Above the line = invited, below the line = entered with a B cut but were invited in a different event

The system the entry officials use also show B cut relays that were entered with 4 swimmers that made the meet (mostly coincidental).

So, there will be more than 17 teams in the 200 free relay. Coaches with 4 swimmers at the meet can swim their B cut relays no matter which swimmers achieved the cut, it just doesn't automatically show up in the psych sheet since there was at least 1 univited swimmer on their original entry.

gobluwolverine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
And I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that to be able to swim on an UNinvited relay, they have to swim in an invited relay.

In other words, anyone who doesn't swim on the 2medley or 4free can't swim on the other 2 relays (except Balazs of course). You can't swim ONLY uninvited events, even if they're relays. Sounds obvious once you hear it, but might not be if you don't think about it.

Not sure if this affects our team a whole lot, because our best 100 guys are probably also our best 50 guys, but in some cases it might matter.
texagg09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry in advance if I misunderstood your post, but here goes...

Sounds to me like youre saying that a swimmer not invited to the meet, could not swim on a relay. Which is true, but if you think about it, is very obvious

To swim on an uninvited relay, the only requirement is that you be invited to the meet (whether via individual or another relay).

Example: let's say the 400FrR had NOT been invited, Balazs could swim on any relay (since he was invited in the 100), but Raiford/Clarke could not (since they were not invited to the meet otherwise)

Just wanted to share a funny story with you guys.

So, if you've been to the nat. yesterday or today, you may have noticed that most of the teams just left their flags up for when the guys come. Well, on Saturday evening, I was watching the diving, and noticed a little bruhaha between 2 of the Missouri girls swimmers and the guys that appeared to be guarding the door to go upstairs. The guys told them that they weren't allowed to go up there, but the girls explained that they had to. When the guys asked why they had to go upstairs, their answer:

"We have to go get our flag down."

When I walked into the pool area today and noticed that most of the flags were still up, it made me chuckle when I remembered how the Missouri girls had to take theirs down.

So, if anyone has friends on the Missouri swim team, be sure to point out to them that they may have topped our guys at Big 12's, but only one of the two teams still has their flag up there.
