The Big 12 swimming championships begin this Wednesday in Austin, running through Saturday evening.

Let's make it two in a row for the ladies - maybe not as close as last year!

And I look forward to some great swims on the men's side.

Psych sheet posted here.

too bad the psych sheet doesnt tell whos on the scoring squad...

...or what everyone is actually going to swim. so many people are entered in so many events to try and trick the other teams

The ladies get off to an impressive start.

I think the ladies should be win by MANY more points than last year (remember, they didn't have any divers last year!)
Also, then men have really put together a good team this year, I wouldn't be surprised to have them jump up to 15th nationally after big XII's.

Separated by just 0.01 after the backstroke, Alrejando Jacobo powered the A&M 200 Medley to a 0.30 lead at the half-way point. Daniel Rohleder pulled ahead for the Longhorns and gave Jeremy Harris enough of a lead to hold off Ozzie Gardner's 18.97 anchor split. Texas 1:27.18, A&M 1:27.36 with Missouri third in 1:30.71.

Ozzie was flying! Damn!!! Nearly won this one.

The ladies swam very well but our freestyler on the 200 medley needs to go faster than a 22.62. Triin's fly split was 22.92!

The men's 200 medley was damned impressive. Ozzie's split was terrific.

Our 800 free was our season best but Texas beat us by 26 seconds in an American record time. Unbelievable splits in that race. Slowest time was 1:33.3! That roster was an A-list group with possible 2-3 Olympians. Nothing wrong with the way our Ags swam. Texas just happens to have 12 extraordinarily fast 200 free guys.

I think the ladies will win going away. I think we'll lose only to Escobar in a 1 or 2 of the distance freestyles. Texas was beat by Kansas in the 200 medley. When was the last time Kansas beat Texas in a swimming relay? And Texas 800 free was beaten by MU?

One more thing - Texas swam relatively poorly at NCAAs last year. I hope (I actually do) Eddie gets his guys ready for that instead of Big12s. That 800 free relay was an awesome swim. Way fast for a meet weeks ahead of NCAAs.

The thing that amazed me about UT's 800 free is that they had 3 relays beat us fairly easily. As mentioned above, our guys did great, but UT's 200 freestylers are incredible.

It also looks like Jay has the guys getting some big drops with their taper, which is great.

It goes without saying that our women are doing incredible and appear to be on their way to a second conference title, but you never know what will happen until it's over.

Way to go Ags, keep up the great swims!

H2O - I saw the Texas 800 relays. I was trying to be kind (hard for me to do) by not pointing out that their A, B, and C relays beat us.

Texas has incredible depth in freestyle, especially the 200. It kinda surprises me that so many of those guys want to swim for Texas on the C relay when they could swim on most teams' A or B.

Our guys are swimming well.

The girls are swimming very well. Triin's 50 this morning was very fast. If she can trim .12 seconds tonight she would beat Colleen Lanne's conference record. We had a bunch of girls < 24 secs, several already marked for exhibition swims.

I'm not surprised by Ozzie and Casey's time. But Chambless really sprinted well. Big time drop for him. We are still much better at sprints than distance!

whats even more impressive is that a bunch of the girls aren't shaved. The ones that already have their cuts like triin and heiss only started tapering i think on friday. AND they swam those events im pretty sure in their race suit not full body.
SpicewoodAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I haven't watched our girls enough to know which suits they wear to the big races. Not everyone wears a full body suit. Every swimmer has a preference. The Floswimming site has an interview with Bultman and he does talk about how some girls are fully tapered, some are shaved, some in suits, etc. He doesn't say who is doing what but clearly the ones with automatic NCAA times should not be truly rested for this meet.

jenni stratton is not rested--- and she just broke the 10 year old 500 free conference record

so its prolly going to happen a lot but

julia wilkinson just broke the conference record for 200 im with a blazing 1:56.12

If you go to http://www.flocasts.org/floswimming/coverage.php?c=197
you can watch interviews with coaches and swimmers at the meet. You can also click on the event name on the left of the screen and watch every heat swam for that event.

agswin15 -- I've done that, as far as I know, but I see no point totals.

I'm surprised Texas is that close to us in the women's points. They won diving I know. But their relays have not been good.

The men were really hurt by the DQ in the 400 medley. Looked like they had a good race underway too.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
the only reason it's remotely close is because after A&M places high in the indvidual events, there is rarely anyone to knock the Texas girls off points on the other four teams; Texas' relays have definitely been their low point...they have yet to get second in a relay so far

Exactly. He isn't a "fish" either. He is just another sip who swam 19.52 and barely beat Ozzie.

Kansas' girls are much better than I thought. Some good times there.

Texas' girls relays have been terrible so far.

Duran's splits were not particularly good. His IM time was off but maybe he was resting for today. Is he healthy this weekend?

The girls look real strong. The relays tonight should be fun.

Duran came out of his underwater too far

We will lose too many points from that and the relay DQ.
