Head Coach

Fresh off his third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, Williams returned to Aggieland after spending five seasons at Virginia Tech. His coaching career has included stints as an assistant, associate head and head coach, and he has been at the NCAA Division I level for 21 seasons. Williams has recruited and coached more than 20 players who have earned all-conference accolades, including two league Players of the Year, two conference Freshmen of the Year and four Associated Press All-Americans.

In his five years in Blacksburg, Williams led the Hokies to four consecutive 20-win seasons and four consecutive 10-win seasons in Atlantic Coast Conference play. In 2018-19 Williams guided a nationally-ranked Tech team to a 26-9 record, finishing 12-6 in the ACC. The Hokies earned a 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for just the second time in program history. Williams earned his 100th victory as the head coach at Virginia Tech when the Hokies knocked off Liberty in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Williams is married to the former Corey Norman and the couple have two daughters, Zera and Addyson, and two sons, Calvin and Mason.

Associate Head Coach

A former student assistant for Coach Williams at New Orleans, Devin Johnson joins Buzz Williams’ staff as an assistant at Texas A&M.

Johnson previously served as an assistant at Virginia Tech, helping the Hokies to their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since the tournament expanded in 1985. Johnson spent the first four campaigns as the Hokies’ director of player personnel, where he oversaw the program’s video needs, exchange procedures and players’ scheduling and time management.

A 2008 graduate of UNO, Johnson earned his bachelor's degree in business management and earned a minor in sport management.

Steve Roccaforte

Assistant Coach

Roccaforte worked for Buzz Williams previously for four years at Virginia Tech, three as an assistant and one as associate head coach. Roccaforte comes to Aggieland after spending the last three seasons at East Carolina as an associate head coach under Joe Dooley.
Known nationally as a tireless recruiter and enthusiastic floor coach, Roccaforte helped the Hokies earn back-to-back NCAA Tournament at-large bids in 2017 and 2018 and post three consecutive 20-win seasons (2015-18). He also helped the Hokies win 10 ACC games in three consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the conference in 2004.

Roccaforte joined the coaching staff at Virginia Tech following three years as an assistant coach at South Florida. He played a large role in USF getting a top-15 recruiting class for both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons and helped the Bulls advance to the round of 32 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Consistently toward the top of the list, he was ranked as the 23rd best assistant coach in the country that season.

Lyle Wolf

Lyle Wolf joined the Athletics Department in April of 2019 as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

Lyle will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach with the basketball program. In addition, he will provide instruction, demonstration, evaluation and teaching of sport to assure individual student athletes and team reaches maximum potential, as well as, assisting with administrative duties as assigned.

Lyle graduated from Transylvania University in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Lyle then went on to obtain his Master’s degree in Leadership studies with a specialization in Sports Leadership at Marquette University in 2014. Lyle also obtained his Doctorate in Global Sports Leadership from East Tennessee State University in 2018. Prior to A&M, Lyle worked for Virginia Tech.
