It is confusing. They need to pull a rabbit out of a hat somehow.Method Man said:
Confusingly bad recruiting for a staff known for recruiting. Might as well hire someone who is a coach and doesn't recruit.

Should be ok for next year if Tyler, DJ, and Admon come back but the year after that those three will leave major holes. Can't have those holes being filled by just true fish.
Agreed on all counts. Until recently I had always assumed Tyler was definitely a four year player. Not so sure anymore. Hopefully we can get enough out of Jasey and Nebo next season the post isn't a major weakness. Nebo seems like a sort of Robert Williams light with the same sort of game, and Jasey hopefully is at least a good rim protector. Guard play should be good enough to carry the team.Hop said:GE said:It is confusing. They need to pull a rabbit out of a hat somehow.Method Man said:

The program is fine at guard. Where it will really affect the program in 2018-2019 is if Davis goes pro. The program can have one down class if surrounded by a couple of large, good classes. They have that on the front end. If they can get 3-4 quality prospects in the next class, they will be fine...but it does put the pressure on for next year because there is no margin for error now.
The primary concern in this class was the inability of the staff to close on several kids that had A&M either leading at some point or in the top 2-3 and they lost every single one.
Yes. This guys pretty good? Needed things to start swinging our way. Especially a wing.Hop said:
You boys are either discouraged by A&M recruiting or hung over from the Astros' World Series celebration. I'm surprisd this hasn't been mentioned, but it looks like A&M has a good chance to get tall shooting guard/wing Antwann Jones from Tampa who decommitted from OSU. He's visiting this weekend and it sounds like A&M has a good shot to wrap him up.
Billy Kennedy on his radio show on Monday said that they had 1 guy who they were hoping to sign for the early November signing period. So that was a big hint from BK himself early this week that there was a 2018 recruit out there who was in play. Also, I noticed that Jerry Meyer put some kind of insider article out in the last week on Texas A&M Hoops recruiting, another big clue that something was up.Hop said:

I think that is to be expected regarding Davis. Technician, big body, really soft hands, but isn't going to wow anyone with his athletic ability, and therefore isn't going to stand out to NBA scouts. He is a guy, IMO, that will (or should) play all four years in college and then maybe get drafted at the end of the second round or as an undrafted free agent. He could also have a very successful career overseas.Hop said:
FYI, I was looking over the shoulder of a scout at the exhibition game and he wasn't very excited about Tyler. Said he was stiff-legged and although in better shape isn't a "1A" prospect...whatever that means. He had several other '"meh" type of comments early, but did add late that he played with a motor and he loved his intensity.
The other tow evals were Robert and Bamba. He fell in love with Mamba calling him an advanced Nerlins Noel and first word of his review was "WOW!".
He also loved Robert's athleticism and frame, but he noticed he was always going to his right offensively.
Yesterday, Crystal Ball had like 10 recruiting analysts from all the major recruiting sites come in with 10 picks for Jones to commit to Texas A&M. That plus him coming in on an official visit this weekend...signs look good that the deal is pretty close to being sealed.Chuck Gay said:
That would be an outstanding pick up. The staff kept working through a few recruiting misses. I hope they seal the deal this weekend!

What's going on with Quentin Grimes? Are we still in the running.

Five-star combination guard Quentin Grimes is nearing his college choice. Like a number of other five-star recruits, a decision is expected from Grimes over the next seven days. When it will come, either hasn't been determined or hasn't been put out by Grimes. Kansas and Texas are believed to be the favorites for the 6-foot-4 guard with Kentucky also still in the picture. Grimes has taken official visits to those three schools, plus Marquette.

Antwann Jones | No. 71
It looked like Florida native Antwann Jones had things figured out when he picked Oklahoma State, but following the firing of assistant coach LaMont Evans in the wake of the ongoing FBI probe, Jones decided to reopen his recruitment. A recent visit to Texas A&M might have the Aggies as the new leader for Jones. Jones was said to really like his trip to College Station, and the Aggies seem to be spending significant time on Jones, and that is something that is making an impact. If Jones signs early there is a good chance it will be for Texas A&M, but there remains a distinct possibility he will wait this out.
