On Monday, the league named Gabi Rodriguez SEC Freshman of the Week after No. 14 Texas A&M’s pair of sweeps over Rice and South Carolina.
She’s the first Aggie to be named freshman of the week since Logan Lednicky in 2022.
Rodriguez is one of many youngsters impressing on this A&M team, but beyond that, she has turned heads around the country. Teams intentionally serve away from the freshman because of how much respect she’s garnered in such a short time.
The rookie has registered 11 straight games with 10 or more digs. She recorded 10 or more in every non-conference game but one.
This past week, she totaled 25 digs and an average good-pass rating of 80 percent against the Gamecocks. That’s elite.
With a good-pass rating of 63.6 percent up to this point, Rodriguez has been a star in the making for A&M. She has helped pave the way for the offense to run more efficiently than ever in the last few weeks as they ramp up conference play.
At the service line, she is tied to lead the team in aces, adding another this week.
With Rodriguez in the ‘bro jersey, expect A&M’s growth curve to keep ascending, not only this season but for the four more she’s in an Aggie uniform.
