Clay Travis on DeLoss Dodds, A&M and the SEC brand

Quotes from the Clay Travis Interview:

"DeLoss Dodds taking shots at Missouri really came out of nowhere. It was really surprising."

"What you see in quotes like that is the realization that they might have won some battles but Texas has lost the war."

"You have to play games that matter. Texas' big miscalculation was that the Big 12 has continued to get weaker."

"If ESPN hadn't bought the LHN, the someone else would have. It would have cost ESPN more than $15 million to lose the Big 12."

"The LHN is not paying off in terms of helping UT's brand."

"A&M has to continue to embrace the SEC brand. They have to make kids in Texas want to play in the best league in the country."

"A&M needs as many people as possible watching the Bama game on Sept. 14th. A game like that goes a long way towards branding."

"I think Dodds will take a shot at Nick Saban [once Brown is gone]. Texas is going to wildly overpay for a new coach."

"The only reason I can see Saban going to Texas is because there isn't much left to do at Alabama."

the sips have already put feelers out to Saban's people! $7-10M per year with 10 year guarantee! I agree with Clay, Saban is not only the savior for tu, he is also Big Whatever's savior! The conference will help the sips every way they can, it is critical to their survival. Saban has nothing more to prove at Bama. No one has won a MNC at three Div1 schools! $100M over a decade, finish his career in Austin which beats the hell out of T town. Biggest budget in the NCAA, top facilities and in the hot bed of high quality HS athletes! ?????? DAH?

Don't forget, Saben will get tired of loosing to us and realize the NC's and conference championships arn't going to be coming around like they were before.

As always he will get while the getting is good and retire a decade from now sitting on $100M+. He knows the Aggies are coming and Tuscaloosa 2.0 is scheduled for Sept. 14 in College Station with about 20M watching! Ouch!

67walkon, not sure what you're getting at.

Do not want Saban in Austin. That could not go well.

I don't want him there either, but I bet that's gonna happen! The sips will spend rediculous money! They have to! Just and old walkon's opinion!

Perhaps I'm naive, but does Saban really need the money? At this stage in his very successful career, perhaps legacy is more important than $$$. Yes, Texas can fill his coffers to the max, but then Saban just becomes another legend at Bama. By staying and finishing his career at Bama, he could become THE legend, even surpassing the Bear. And, if he goes to tu, he's got to convince athletes to play for the BIG XII -2 instead of the SEC. Is that fulfilling for him? I don't think so. Maybe I'm all wrong, but he's sitting on top of the sport world today. He's got full reins over the program, and I doubt Dodds would relinquish full control to anyone.

West Point Aggie, you are right on. I just don't think tu is going to lure Saban away from Bama. My bigger worry, frankly, is who is lining up to lure Sumlin away from here. He's still quite young and has a lot of football coaching left in him. We do NOT have the same kind of money Bama and tu have, at least not yet.

West Point...Bama does well but they don't have the kind of money tu has! In the next few years your going to see universities presidents and boards take a position on controlling the crazy money that is being thrown around in college football off the performance of 18 year old kids! Money won't be the primary reason he leaves . The final challenge of his arrogant career! Fire away!

Saban is Mr. Anti Personality. I can't see him doing any of the LHN crap.

Frankly, what is another $2-4M a year to Bama (or us for that matter) to match any money whip tu tries to steal one of our coaches?

I don't see Saban wanting to move to a less prestigious conference.

Diet Coke..all coaches reach a shelf life at a school..it used to take 20 years..now it is more like 10..Mack has past his..RC...Meyer...Spurrier.
I can go on. Nick will reach his at Bama and if he is smart... and I think he is... he will jump at taking the next challege and retire a bazillionaire..if he never wins one game. Time will tell. Roll Tide???

Saban made about six mil this year. Texas would prolly have to pay 10+ min to get him to even consider to put up with the lhn and play the UT politics game

This topic has been discussed ad nauseam on this board in the past. Bama can easily match $10 mil if they wanted to. For tu to out bid Bama, it would have to be in the $20 mil a year range, and even then Bama would try and mortgage the university to keep him. Saban has turned down several NFL teams already. Why would he want to move to tu and try and rebuild yet again.

Plus there is no way he would have anything to do with being on the LHN as much as Brown is forced to be on it. When Saban got hired at Bama, he said the only way he'd do the weekly coach's show is to do it directly after each game, before he left the stadium (and that is how he has done it). He won't put up with the LHN engagements.

He still has Bear's 6 national championships to shoot for at Bama. He is trying to do something at Bama that hasn't really been done in the BCS era. The only place he is going after Bama is to the lake in retirement.
