WBB: Aggies gig Horned Frogs 68-47
On Saturday, the Texas A&M women’s basketball team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs (4-3) by a score of 68-47 in front of 4,437 fans at Reed Arena. With the victory, the Aggies (5-3) move to 32-4 all time against TCU and 18-0 against the former Southwest Conference foe in College Station.
Kelsey Bone led the way for A&M with 27 points and eight rebounds. Kristi Bellock and Adrienne Pratcher also had a solid game, scoring seven points a piece.
The Aggies held the Horned Frogs off the scoreboard for the first 10:09 of the game and put up 21 points in that time to build a lead that wouldn't be relinquished. Over that span, the Horned Frogs were 0-of-15 from the floor and wouldn't record a field goal until Veja Hamilton hit a jumper with 8:27 left in the first half.
"We thought I was going to have to pull the whip out early in this game because we've had two mediocre practices leading up to this game," said A&M head coach Gary Blair. "Maybe we were more worried about our final exams, but we called this our chemistry exam. I thought we adjusted (to TCU's style of play) pretty well."
While Bone's 27 points and 12-of-15 shooting was important to A&M's success, perhaps her most impressive play of the day came with 17:37 left to play when the junior drove to the basket before dishing the ball out to Pratcher who knocked down the open three-pointer. Bone finished the game with three assists.
"I'm very conscious of how defenses play me," said Bone. "In the beginning they were guarding me with single coverage and I knew that once they went zone that the double team would come. If there are two or three people on me, I'm always looking for my teammates."
The Aggies hit the hardwood again next Saturday as they travel to Los Angeles to take on Southern California in their second road game of the season.
