Around Aggieland (1/24)
On Friday’s edition of TexAgs Live, Kay Naegeli took us Around Aggieland and provided updates on all things Texas A&M as the spring sports are underway. Men's basketball and women's basketball continue their conference slates and more.
Football
Mike Elko and Texas A&M added James Madison's Lyle Hemphill to join the Fightin' Texas Aggies' coaching staff. In 2022 and 2023, Hemphill was on Elko's staff in Durham and comes to Aggieland after one season as defensive coordinator at JMU.
Men’s Basketball
Down two in the final seconds of the game, Manny Obaseki drilled a 3-pointer with 13 left to give No. 13 Texas A&M its first lead of the night and a win over Ole Miss.
Another Quadrant 1 opportunity is ahead for A&M as they face their first mirror opponent in Texas in the Lone Star Showdown in Austin on Saturday.
Women’s Basketball
With the fewest points allowed against a ranked opponent since the 2020-21 season, the Aggies snapped the Wildcats’ nine-game winning streak and upset No. 11 Kentucky.
Aicha Coulibaly posted a game-high 21 points in the victory, her fourth 20-plus point performance.
Entering the contest as the nation's best blocking team, the Wildcats did not deny any A&M shots, while the Aggies stuffed six. In addition, the Aggies held the Wildcats to a microscopic 5.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Up next, the Aggies will travel to Baton Rouge to face No. 5 LSU on Sunday, January 26. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT.
