Texas A&M volleyball faces first-round test from Colorado State
The road to glory begins.
Texas A&M volleyball will begin its postseason run for a national championship on Dec. 6 against Colorado State in Tempe, Arizona.
The first-round match of the NCAA Tournament is set to start at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Riding a four-game win streak entering the postseason, the Aggies won their regular-season finale via a 3-0 sweep over South Carolina in Columbia.
A&M brings obvious momentum required for a championship trek, and head coach Jamie Morrison says the team is playing its best volleyball right now.
“I think we’re playing the best volleyball of the year when it matters most,” Morrison said. “I’m really, really fired up and proud of that.”
Overall, A&M’s regular season was very successful. The Aggies own a 19-7 record and a 10-6 mark against Southeastern Conference foes. Both represent A&M’s best since 2019.
Along with that, stars Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla garnered first-team All-SEC acclaim.
Beyond momentum, A&M brings star power into their second tournament berth in as many years.
However, in the 2024 dance, the Aggies look to take it a step further after they fell in the first round last year to the Texas Longhorns.
“I think we’re a steadier volleyball team than we were a year ago,” Morrison said. “I think the thing I’m most happy about right now is just the quality of volleyball that we’re playing across the board. I’m excited to put that to the test against a good Colorado State team.”
Colorado State had its fair share of regular-season success as well.
The Rams went 20-10 with a 14-4 record in conference play and are in the NCAA Tournament as the Mountain West champions.
Like A&M, CSU also ended the season on a four-game win streak, with the most recent victory being a 3-1 decision over San Jose State to win the conference tournament.
The road to a championship won’t be easy for the Aggies, but they certainly have been tested by playing in a tough conference like the SEC.
They’ll have their hands full from the get-go, but A&M has both the experience and momentum needed to make this December one for the ages.
