TexAgs' recruiting analyst Jason Howell joined TexAgs Live on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • For that weekend, A&M did a phenomenal job stacking the visitor list. It's not a nationally ranked-opponent, but they did well. Lamont Rogers‍, Nicholas Townsend‍ and Trey McNutt III‍ were in the 2025 class alone. The 2026 class was Dorian Barney‍, Tristen Keys‍, Jabari Brady‍ and Madden Williams‍.

  • I don't know if I feel good about all the guys on the visits but it is a promising sign that you get them on campus. Lamont Rogers is one that I do feel good about. He has been here three times. Nicholas Townsend has been in the mix as well. He is committed to Texas, but there has been some back-and-forth interest.

  • The same thing happened with Trey McNutt III. That was a last-minute visit. You're seeing them double-check A&M, at the very least. Trey has a lot of connections to Houston, and getting him on campus was a big move. It will take a lot more to say that he flipped, though.

  • Michael Fasusi‍ came down to five schools. There has been a lot of talk around Fasusi this week. There was a lot of Texas talk at that time. He brought up A&M in that conversation. They were able to make their presence felt.

  • The biggest thing was that after this weekend, it came out on Monday that Fasusi was taking a visit to Texas for the Kentucky game instead of going to the Oklahoma and Alabama game. That was the red flag. They made it clear that he was not committed. He has a visit scheduled for the A&M vs. Texas game. You can see it as Texas getting two visits, or you can see it as A&M getting one last one. Oklahoma should be scared that he might flip. You can make a case for A&M and Texas. Getting him on campus for that game is important. If you win, you can make a big impression.

  • I interviewed Dorian Barney today. He's going to Auburn this weekend as a guest. It doesn't hurt, especially if A&M takes care of business. He may come back for the Texas game in a week. It will be almost a month of A&M games for Dorian Barney.

  • These are top of the list, guys. They're as ready-made as you get on the high school level. Offensive tackle and quarterback are kind of the same. In my mind, the question is, do you want to start a freshman OT or quarterback? It wouldn't be a surprise if either of those guys, Barney or Fasusi, stepped into a significant role as true freshmen.

  • Things started to heat up in the last few weeks. Last week, it got serious. We started to hear that Husan Longstreet‍ told USC he was flipping on Saturday. Unfortunately, that was the way it went. He was saying everything right and had a great relationship with the coaches. Since Julian Lewis‍ has been looking, you've heard Longstreet would be a priority target. Unfortunately, it happens, but that's how it goes on the recruiting trail. There is a lot to take into account.

  • Ideally, you'd want to grab a high school guy. A&M would be a potential landing spot that would be inviting a transfer quarterback, but Marcel Reed is doing big things, and there is so much to sort out. You'd like to grab a high school quarterback. I don't think you should take a guy to take a guy. These quarterback evaluations get done so early. There are a lot of guys who emerge later after the evaluations are done. Youve seen guys that have come from under the radar. At the same time, A&M has much to offer for all positions. You've got a chance to make some noise out there. I like some of the things that I've been hearing. You don't have to panic. You've got an opportunity with the big home game.

  • There has been discussion about Seth McGowan‍ after the New Mexico State game.

  • Many Texas quarterbacks are getting a good look right now. We'll see what happens when they zero in on some targets. There will likely be some Texas quarterbacks involved and some other guys they have a relationship with.

  • When this all started to come out, I checked around to see how strong Keelon Russell‍'s commitment to Alabama was and was told pretty flat-out no. That ship has sailed.

  • I haven't heard anything about Air Noland‍ being pursued. I'm sure he will be evaluated if he's in the portal, but that was a different staff.

  • You'll see A&M look at their roster and how it will shake up with potential moves. It's an undertaking, and there's a lot to consider.
