On November 28, 1968, Texas A&M fell to its in-state rival, 35-14, in Austin to cap off a disappointing 3-7 season. Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle joined TexAgs Live to relive the game and chat about the Longhorns' newly minted No. 1 spot in the AP Poll.

Key notes from Kirk Bohls interview

  • I was a senior in high school in 1968. What is interesting is, unlike this year for Texas A&M and Texas, they had too many running backs. Texas had a wealth of running backs, and that’s what spurred the wishbone.

  • That was when quarterbacks were switched. Bill Bradley was the heralded quarterback. It was 35-0 at the half. That was the Bradley game. That was a good memory for Longhorn fans.

  • I was impressed with Marcel Reed. He had three touchdowns, two through the air and showed off his legs. He looked terrific. You can say what you want about Florida. He produced, and the moment wasn’t too big. I would guess they stick with him.

  • The backup quarterback over here in Austin, Arch Manning, had a pretty good debut in extended time. They haven't renamed Austin “Archville” yet. Steve Sarkisian and the locker room are behind Quinn Ewers. It's a luxury of riches having two guys who are that talented. There is no quarterback controversy yet.

  • Sarkisian started 5-7 here. There are growing pains when you change coaches. A&M was in the Notre Dame game, and they could have won. Notre Dame drubbed Purdue, so I think we saw the real Notre Dame team.

  • It is all about quarterback play. It will be interesting. I don't know what you see in Reed that you don't like. Maybe there is a lack of experience, but it's not like Conner Weigman has a ton of it. To have two quarterbacks, you have confidence speaks volumes in college football.

  • It's hard to come up with a weakness for Texas so far. They have the 34th toughest schedule in the country. Michigan is very down. I do have the Aggies in my top 25 at No. 22. The “Group of Five” teams are making their presence felt. Check back on Texas after they have played Oklahoma and Georgia in back-to-back weeks.
