Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 2
It's the Week 2 edition of Brauny's Best, where I take a look at some of the top performances from the high school football circuit across the state of Texas and beyond. Personally, I saw two incredible outings from a pair of top 2026 prospects, so I have a choice to make before I get to the final segment of this article.
With that said, let's get started.
Texas A&M Commits
2025 Quartz Hill (CA) CB Adonyss Currie
- 7 receptions, 154 yards, 3 touchdowns
- 118 kick return yards
- 1 solo tackle, 1 assist
Highlights have been hard to come by for this one, but it was a busy night for the super-talented Currie as he nearly pulled his team to a victory over Shadow Ridge. Cornerback prospects typically have to make their hay on the stat line on the other side of the ball because they're so rarely tested in high school football. However, I like cover men who also shine as playmakers on offense. It obviously demonstrates a certain level of skill that will translate to the next level, especially for such a long, rangy kid like Currie. I'm sure if you asked him, he'd give up all the numbers for a win, but his night was the clear-cut best amongst the Aggie commits this week.
The State of Texas
2025 Columbus ATH Grayson Rigdon
- 15 rushes, 207 yards, 4 touchdowns
- 4 receptions, 50 yards
That's now back-to-back impressive weeks for the Air Force commit as he makes the transition to 11-man football after being a three-year standout at the six-man level. Rigdon is pacing an impressive Columbus ground attack that's off to a fast start this season. He's been decisive and sudden and flashes better-than-you-think straight-line speed. He has also shown plenty of versatility with his ability to make plays in the passing game. It'll be interesting to see if more regional schools take notice and make a play for him at the next level, especially if he keeps at this pace.
My Coverage
2026 Atascocita ATH Cardae Mack
- 17 rushes, 109 yards, 1 touchdown
- 11-18 passing, 245 yards, 3 touchdowns
It was going to be hard for anyone on Friday night to outdo what Jermaine Bishop of Willis did on Thursday, but Cardae Mack was up to the task and then some. He's playing quarterback, but he's being recruited as a running back. I would recruit him as a winner. The kid can just flat-out play football. He's not the biggest, the fastest or strongest, but he has an outstanding feel for the game, shows great contact balance and has a knack for finding hidden yards. The Atascocita coaches rave about his presence on the team, as well. He took over the game against Katy and propelled his team to a 27-7 second-half scoreline to bring home a victory in a matchup of two Houston area powers.
