Sweeping A&M Corpus Christi to begin the season 1-0, Texas A&M volleyball returns to the hardwood of Reed Arena for Fish Camp Night, hosting Texas State on Friday. Coach Jamie Morrison joined TexAgs LIVE to speak about his team and encourage #PackReedPropaganda.

Key notes from Jamie Morrison interview

  • I am feeling great. I came in here last time talking about our offense and that is continuing to fire. I talked about getting back to our blocking ways, which is starting to fire. I am really happy. Playing in front of the 12th Man was a really cool and different experience for some of our athletes.

  • There is a huge adjustment to playing at home in front of the 12th Man. There are two pieces to it. There is the amount of people and how engaged they are. The crowd is more engaged here than anywhere else. Hats off to our yell leaders for getting that going. There is this want to do well by the fans and perform for them. I think we got through that in about 15 points and hit our stride.

  • Yes, there are still teaching moments when things are going well. Losing is the best teacher, but there are still pieces in wins that can be improved. You don't treat it like a loss, but you want to find where you could have squeezed out two or three more points.

  • Your team has to figure out who they are as the year goes on. I thought it took two sets for us to get in a groove against South Alabama. Against McNeese, it took us about one set. I joked afterward that we needed to get into it about 15 points in the next match, and it was. I am hoping this next time, it will be five points.

  • We had a good crowd on Monday. It was a different feeling than we had in the past. My vision for this program is to put together a product that people want to come to watch and be a part of the program.

  • I don't think volleyball coaches are studying what each other's media is saying. I don't like to play games there. I am a big believer that the best team is usually going to win.

  • I think we are trending in the right direction as far as efficiency. We are trying to find different ways for people to come in and contribute because we are deep.

  • Logan Lednicky is looking great. She has been getting better and more comfortable in the back row. She is becoming more vocal.

  • I want to see us continue to improve leading up to SEC play. I think the ball control piece and figuring out how people can come in and get experience is important.

  • If you're a football fan and bring your ticket, you can get in the game for free on Friday. We are trying to do some different things with crowd engagement. Beers are five dollars. I want to get people ingrained in our sport.
