Winners of five of their first six conference series, #12 Texas A&M softball currently sits second in the league with two conference series remaining. Head coach Trisha Ford joined TexAgs Radio to look back on the weekend in Tuscaloosa and their week ahead.

Key notes from Trisha Ford interview

  • Tuscaloosa is a hard place to play in any athletic venue. The crowd was rowdy and pretty full. There is nothing better than having a very silent crowd. You could have heard a pen drop at a couple of points during the game.

  • When I was at Stanford and Arizona State, I was in Tuscaloosa a couple of times. It was really nice to come out with a win.

  • Sometimes, emotions get the best of people. At the end of the day, we got a double play out of it. It was bad base running. It took the umpires a good amount of time after the review went to Birmingham. We are not allowed to argue. I just came out of the dugout to say," Let's go. Let's move on."

  • I think we are heading in the right direction. There is a lot more we can do. I feel like we have figured some things out. Being on the road, we got our mojo back. Playing in front of the 12th Man, we have a lot of success. It's figuring out how to bring the 12th Man on the inside and play games on the road.

  • Trinity Cannon's impact was huge. We needed some of those seniors to step up this weekend, and they did. Jazmine Hill had a good wekeend. Julia Cottrill, too. I pulled some of them in my room after the game one loss. We had a little bit of chat about what we were feeling and seeing. They talked to me about some things. Trinity had to play first. She normally is our DP. She kept it simple. It's about being on time and hunting a good pitch.

  • It was just about going back and playing our kind of game. Their heads were spinning and trying to do too much. We went back to the beginning of the year approach and went back to that instead of making the moment too big.

  • The kid we were facing, Kayla Beaver, was throwing between 70 to 73 mph. We are at 43 feet. That is quick. When you face someone that throws really hard, you have to move sooner and slower. Coach Jeff Harger says it all the time. Just get your head into a good space. You see guys on the baseball team and even the big leagues do breathing excerises and center themselves so they can have a .03 reaction time.

  • North Texas is on a five-game winning streak right now. They have a balanced attack. They have a couple of kids with home run power and arms that can throw upper 60s. It will not be an easy one. If we come out and do what we did this weekend, we will be alright.
