Texas A&M soccer looks to build momentum in the heat of SEC play
Following a 4-0 win over Ole Miss, Texas A&M soccer eyes more positive momentum with an on-the-road test at Vanderbilt and a home match with Alabama. Head coach G Guerrieri joined Wednesday's edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss the upcoming matchups.
Key notes from G Guerrieri interview
- About time we broke the seal on these goals. It has been a long time coming. Once we got the momentum against Ole Miss, it was one-way traffic. Happy for the players. The gates opened.
- We have had our foot on people's throats all season long. We just kind of let up. It was nice to go for the kill. You have to keep the pressure on. We had four different players who had goals in four different situations. It was a good performance all the way around. I gave them Saturday and Sunday off. The Sunday off was needed. We have two home games left. We play 20 games in 11 weeks.
- It is Mental Health Week. Last night on our radio show, we had Dr. Ryan Pittsinger talking about that. Pointy football on Saturday. Round football on Sunday against Alabama. Mental health is a really important part of all of our sports. These college athletes have always been the best of the best in their state. There are a lot of things going on with these kids. Texas A&M is a hard school. They are trying to balance all these things, and it's tough.
- We are in first place in the SEC West and third overall. We are lucky to have a good staff of mental health professionals and help these kids understand that it is just life.
- Vanderbilt is a really well-coached team. They are smart. Vanderbilt and Alabama are teams just like us. These should be attractive games. These are games that will take maximum concentration.
- It will be a little cooler in Nashville. We need a result.
- Hopefully, everyone will get their rest from the football game because our game on Sunday is huge. Alabama was in the final four last year, and they are coming off a terrific year. They have taken a couple of knocks but are still a super team.
- Both Vanderbilt and Alabama are ahead of us in the RPI. If we can take care of business, it has huge benefits for us.
