During Friday morning's edition of TexAgs Radio, we caught up with Andy Staples of On3 to get his thoughts on Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies. Staples also touched on some of the biggest storylines from around the SEC and across the nation ahead of Week 3.

Key notes from Andy Staples interview

  • That's the part that frustrating about Texas A&M is that their problems were offensive last year. Now, the offense looks smooth, and the defense is the problem. Conner Weigman is the guy. He had a few moments in the second quarter where he looked shaky, but he got it back together. You couldn't generate a pass rush and can't tackle on the backend. How did the defense backslide? That's what's mystifying. Let's find out if Miami is really good because it could just be that.

  • The personnel seems like it's there to fix those issues on defense for A&M. Can you find a mix in the secondary that lets you cover and tackle?

  • Perhaps the talent has been spread out more easily. It's not as easy to be dominant. Alabama signed the best recruiting class on paper, but they looked normal against Texas. The Longhorns beat them on both lines of scrimmage.

  • I was at Florida State vs. LSU. I thought LSU would handle them up front, but Florida State whipped them. Mario Cristobal's specialty is offensive linemen.

  • I want to see Texas A&M play a couple more games. I don't think it's time to give up on them just yet. The fan base has built up frustration. If they play well against Auburn and Arkansas, we will have a very different conversation three weeks from now.

  • Let us thank Jay Norvell for giving up something to talk about. Deion Sanders’ reaction was priceless. It did not change what Colorado would do. It made a slow day into an entertaining Thursday.

  • There will be people who think they can copy Deion Sanders. To copy him, you have to be the best player to play your position ever. So unless Tom Brady wants to get into coaching, it won't happen.

  • Deion is there at least through next year. Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders can't transfer immediately. It has been two games. Even if they were 6-6, that is above my expectations. If they go 8-4, 9-3 or are competing for a Pac-12 championship, everybody will want him.

  • Imagine that Deion has a target board of 2024 guys that he wants to flip. If you are a coach that has a guy committed that Deion wants, you will have to fight like hell to keep him.

  • LSU's secondary is not great. The receivers will have a chance to do something against Mississippi State. If Will Rogers has a good game, it gets tough against those cowbells.

  • Florida has to figure out how to establish a run game. They have to move people on the line of scrimmage. Their running backs are their best position group. You want to control the clock against Tennessee.

  • Joe Milton has to be more accurate. Florida may get some turnovers. If Milton is on target, I am not sure Florida can do anything to stop Tennessee, but the Vols have been cursed going to The Swamp. Weird things happen in this series.

  • Texas showed proof of concept in that they are developing their players.  Their defensive front is fantastic. They are old. They have guys at every level of the defense that will be drafted.

  • Alabama has to figure some stuff out. If Jalen Milroe is your guy, how about designing quarterback runs and more read options? If he is not your guy, play someone else. They are not running an offense that suits Milroe.
