Discussing SEC storylines with Mr. College Football Tony Barnhart
During Tuesday morning's edition of TexAgs Radio, legendary college football reporter Tony Barnhart joined to share his thoughts on the latest Southeastern Conference storylines. Barnhart gave his expectations for Texas A&M, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.
Key notes from Tony Barnhart interview
- About a year and a half ago, I was going though old photos and pulled out our team photo for the Greene County Tigers. It was the first integrated team at my high school. I wondered what all these guys are doing. I wanted to turn it into a book so I did, The 19 of Greene. There are still 15 alive, and I interviewed all of them. It was great to reconnect.
- It's hard for Georgia to win three in a row when it’s something hasn't been done. I talked to a group of Georgia alumni and they asked me about it. The odds are against you, but you look at the schedule and ask, ‘Who will beat them?’ Georgia has a lot of good players. The big game is Georgia going to Tennessee on November 18. Will Georgia do it? I’m leaning in that direction.
- Josh Heupel’s offense is very sophisticated. Joe Milton has a cannon. He threw it 85 yards on the fly. He’s got the strength, but can he make all the throws he need to do?
- It's a fascinating story hiring Bobby Petrino. Is it going to work? What will it be like if if it does work? That’s an intriguing story. I think A&M will bounce back. I don't see them winning the SEC West but I see them having a good year.
- Alabama hasn't had just good quarterbacking, they've had elite quarterbacking. Jalen Milroe is a good player. Ask me about Alabama after the Texas game. I think a lot of questions will be answered then.
