Three weeks into the season, Texas A&M softball is sitting at 11-4 with a pair of top-25 victories already on their resume. Ahead of the Aggies' final non-conference weekend, head coach Trisha Ford joined TexAgs Radio to review the early returns from the Maroon & White.

Key notes from Trisha Ford interview

  • In both the UCLA and Oklahoma games, if we clean up some things defensively, we're in completely different ballgames. We just didn't get that big hit we needed, but we won two games on the weekend. We had a rain delay and couldn't get that final game in too.

  • You look at the schedule beforehand and have to make sure our team is cognizant of where they are at and realize it's going to be a rough patch from travel and game times. There were a lot of things that were hard. Right now, I think we're getting better. We've learned a lot, and we have a lot of youth playing. Hopefully, they're gaining a lot of tools to put in their toolboxes to use this year and moving forward.

  • Name the team that outhits an opponent and gets run-ruled. That was us this weekend against Oklahoma. However, that does show you how close we are, and if we clean up some things, we are right there. The fields are tough in Cathedral City, and they're slow-pitch fields, which means they're not very level. Our players are happy to be back on collegiate fields moving forward. We couldn't get the hit we needed. He had some hard outs. It was a game of inches. Hopefully, we can continue to get those opportunities and begin to execute.

  • Emiley Kennedy was lights out against UCLA. Our pitching is going well, and we're staying steady with it. We're working both sides of the plate and getting vertical as well, which is helping them be successful.

  • Gracyn Coleman has done a great job. Riley Valentine has had some big innings. Amari Harper has done some things offensively. They've all done some things, and we're getting better as we prepare for conference.

  • Kennedy is only a sophomore, and so is Emily Leavitt. I think both of them are going to be special ball players.

  • We're finally back home, and it's the first time since opening weekend. We'll go to Baylor this week, and I believe they're ranked near the top ten. We'll play Baylor and Sam Houston twice before it's off to Arkansas for SEC play.

  • We're excited to be back in this time zone. We're excited to be in Texas. I would imagine that a number of our fans travel to Waco this weekend. It's just nice to be home.

  • For us to travel, it helps the team get to know each other. You don't get to experience the same stuff at home as you do on the road because you're secluded together, and it leads to a lot of fun things.

  • I'm directionally challenged, so getting around town will take me a while to figure out. I know how to get to my house, Davis Diamond, Target and HEB. That's really all I need right now.
