Texas A&M posted back-to-back Quadrant 1 victories this week with wins over Arkansas and at Missouri. During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, head coach Buzz Williams spoke about how his Aggies are continuing to surge down the stretch.
Key notes from Buzz Williams interview
- I think Jim Schlossnagle is the leader of the school spirit. I’ve had more interactions with him than another employee other than Justin Moore. For someone that hasn't been here very long, he’s done an extraordinary job of the spirit here. He is, for sure, been the leader of the category in being supportive. He texts me every day. He’s at nearly every one of our games. He is a Men’s College World Series coach, and he will be there many times. For him to give up his time says a lot.
- It’s the nature of the world we live in. If you are addicted to your phone, you lose track of reality. Everyone has a platform now. It is easy to get lost in different thoughts and opinions. Our group has been mature in being responsible for this particular day or moment. We spend a lot of time talking about that. The last time I used this phone was last Monday at 9:45 a.m. when I did the last TexAgs interview. I don’t want all these people calling. I don’t want to do interviews or podcasts. It takes my energy and emotions away. We have become regimented in everything we do. I want to give the best I can give. When we were 6-5, I didn’t hear from anybody. I understand the results boost that.
- There’s a group that are scarred from last year and a group that is scarred from what COVID-19 did. There are impacts from two years ago. We went 5-1 to start league play. We lost at Kentucky. We played to our plan, and they beat us. I heard ESPN guys talking and said the last time A&M lost to Kentucky, they lost eight in a row. I can’t participate in that. I’m not mad. That is the truth. I am thankful we were 5-1, but if I get lost in all that, I can’t give my best effort.
- I want justice for our players and our team, our program and our institution. I become involved in the process. How many Quadrant 1 games do you want us to win? Joe Lunardi was saying the committee is concerned about last year. I said what I said last year. I can’t give in to that. I have tried to live like a monk or a hermit. We are doing the job. Let’s give our highest level of commitment to one another. I only want to give my emotional energy to my players, our coaches and our staff.
- Wade Taylor IV is playing at a super-duper high level. He is a 4.0 student. He was Academic All-SEC last year. He has a high EQ. He walks a delicate line because there is risk, but there is high reward. We call that line TSM. Time score momentum. We want to be in charge. He has been playing at an ultra-high level.
- If you can’t come to the basketball game, we won’t be offended. Go to Blue Bell Park and cheer for coach Schlossnagle.
