Locker Room Chat with Dash Harris

On playing with his injury and how it’s feeling…

“Just once I’m out there, try to forget about it as much as I can. Before games and after games is when I feel it the most but once I’m out there I get some adrenaline going and I try and leave that thought out of my head and just focus on getting wins and that’s been helping me out a lot. Just knowing we had to come out and win these games, even at the end of conference, trying to win games and get some momentum going into this Big 12 Tournament. That was my goal, to just win as much as possible. If I’m going to be on the floor, I needed to focus on winning and not my injuries.”

On if the mountain is too tall to climb when playing top ranked teams like Kansas…

“Not at all. Personally, these are the type of games I live for. Like I said, I love big crowds. I love being the underdog. I love things like that, so for me it’s almost like a challenge that I have to try and overcome. Just leaving it all out there on the floor and knowing my teammates did everything they could, that’s enough for me to live with. We weren’t worrying about Kansas. It could have been Texas Tech we were playing and it would have been the same pressure. You have to go out there and win in order to keep your season alive. The fact that it was Kansas didn’t affect us at all, but probably made us step up a little more which is why we played so well early in the game.”

On how it feels to be done with his career at A&M…

“I told somebody that it feels surreal that my season is over right now. I’ve been spoiled to go to the NCAA Tournament three years straight in my career. For it to be my senior year and not go, it kind of hurts. You have to take life’s punches and I don’t regret anything. It’s been a tough fought season for me and my teammates and I commend them all, everybody who has been there from start to finish and the coaches for sticking with it. I love these guys and I’m proud of everybody.”

On what he learned through the course of the season…

“I’ve learned how to lead while you’re not winning all the time. I’m used to winning and I’ve been a winner my whole life, I’ve won everywhere I’ve been and it’s easy to lead guys when you win, but it’s a different kind of leadership role you take when you’re losing or things aren’t going your way. When things aren’t going right, it’s a different type of style you have to lead in and I think I’ve learned that this year. I take everything as a learning experience and you go through everything for a reason, so at least I can say that I learned something this season.”

On what’s next for him and wearing the A&M emblem on his sleeve…

“I’ll always represent A&M as I continue my professional career wherever I land. I’ll always be an Aggie. I’ll probably take a week or so off, and then it’s right back to work. It’s right back to grinding and pursuing my professional career and seeing where it takes me.”
